I don't see any compelling national interest in either.

In Iraq., we have a containment issue with Iran. We have a possibility of a
failed state thanks to GWB's failures.

It is a failed state because we toppled Saddam without any plan for a
successor and that was GWs fault..

Iraq was about Israel not the US.

Partially true, but not for GWB.

It was always about Israel. If we just wanted cheap oil, Saddam would
have sold us all we wanted.

Afghanistan is pure lunacy ... Some misguided revenge thing I don't
understand.

It was about going after bin laden and stopping a repeat performance. That's
what has got to be ensured going forward.

The covert action made sense but the invasion/occupation was stupid.

The covert mission to get Osama made some sense in 4q01, 1q02 but as
soon as he got to a place where we lost the support of the locals, it
was over.

He hasn't completely, and we need to get out asap. But, again, we can't just
leave and expect him to stay away.

We have virtually zero influence in the Pakistan border region and
blowing up innocent civilians is just making it worse..

We are creating more terrorists than we are killing.

Perhaps... counter insurgency is a tough business. Perhaps if we stopped
torturing prisoners and finally close Gitmo, that would be a good start.

Are we going to go into Somalia next?

We're already there!

Covertly and not particularly effectively. We can't even stop the
pirates and they are all on the coast where we could actually get
them. Again we have absolutely zero influence in the interior of the
country.
If you think we should, rent "Black Hawk Down" and get back to me.

No one hates our kids. That's just
extremist nonsense.

That was just for Bob who thinks we all hate someone.

OIC. Sorry.

Which one is Bob again? :)

BP who thinks we all hate the darkie or whatever other racial slur he
uses.

Most of the righties here post racially based slurs against Obama.

Come on. He never said he was going to end either war on the first day
as
President. That's completely loony.

He said he would start the withdrawal from Iraq on Jan 20.
It is 16 months later and the total commitment in the two wars is
higher than it was in 1q09.

Which he did. The number in Iraq is much lower. He never said he would end
the Afg. war in 18 months. In fact, he said he would escalate and fix the
situation.

He moved them to Afghanistan, Is anything "fixed"?

Well, where was he supposed to get them? You claimed that he wasn't
following through on his promise to end our involvement in Iraq. He's doing
that. He and the generals agree that more troops are needed in Afg. He's
both listening to the generals and keeping in mind the bigger picture of our
regional involvement. Now if we could just get the Palestinians and Israelis
to stop killing each other.

Well, now Afg. has potentially a $1T+ worth of natural resources....

Do you propose we try to steal them? ;-)
We would do a lot better sending mining engineers in there than combat
engineers.

Actually, I think it's a bunch of bs that they have those resources. I
think
it's just a lame attempt to get us thinking we should stay.

I imagine they may have some lithium but that is a long way from
actually being able to get it into production.
It could, perhaps, give them a revenue stream that doesn't involve
poppies but I doubt that will drag them up to the 18th century, much
less the 21st century

Perhaps we should just blanket the whole area with lithium. It might calm
down some of them!

"Another country"????

I was really referring to Afghanistan but Iran or Pakistan could be
next the way we are going.
Again, what happened to the "Day one" withdrawal Obama ran on?

Day one? You were expecting he was going to end the wars on the first
day? When did he say that? I must have missed it.

We're already doing drone attacks in Pakistan trying to get bin laden.
Do you think we should stop? Obama is pressing for and already got
international cooperation wrt Iran for sanctions. I think we've been
restraining Israel from attacking them for a while now.

Not hard to get sanctions on Iran. Even other muslim countries are
worried about the idiots in Iran.

Funny how muslims don't turn in the mass killer eh?

Taxation, modern day slavery. The loss of economic freedom.

It's been extremely difficult to get meaningful sanctions. Have you
been living in a hole in the ground??

Funny how you don't turn in all those people who violently racist. You
sure know plenty of them.

Have you noticed you don't have many friends here? Nearly all of your
posts are lame attacks on people who - own boats! You really should
consider leaving or changing your ****ty attitude. The Harry and Don

Not at all. Even though he's the dumbest poster on rec.boats, he's
entitled to demonstate that stupidity. It is a bit funny to read his

Snotty Scotty ought to beg his buddy Loogy to come back under his own

Harry, you had a pretty good job working for a prestigious company.
You got

Why did you get fired and why haven't you been able to secure employment

I've been self-employed continuously since 1990. I have five accounts

Snotty Scotty couldn't as an adult handle the sorts of summer jobs I
