question on open cpn software

no one seems to be able to answer this question,...has anyone used
opencpn software? if so, let me know how to see the charts in the
active directory. when i go to 'tools' i see the kap charts there.
but there's NO WAY to actually SEE the charts. no way to call them up.
no command, no radio button...nothing. the program seems quite
useless.
