I avoid going anywhere on any holiday weekend. Yesterday, I had two real
estate inspections to do in Boulder City, Nevada. I thought it would be nice to take the road down along Lake Mead back to Las Vegas, not having gone that way for many years, and with the lake being low to see it at its lowest in places that were familiar to me from my childhood. Just out of Boulder City on the hill going down, traffic came to a crawl. Like that for about three miles, with the construction slowdowns due to the new bridge at the dam. I finally got down to the state road that takes you along the lake, and we were turned around at the entry station because there was a nasty accident just inside that entry plaza, from the looks of it involving a couple of travel trailers. So, an hour shot in the head just to get turned around. On some busy holiday weekends, there can be 300,000 people in Lake Mead Park. I don't want to go anywhere that bad. It starts at the launch ramp and gets worse from there. I happen to know that there are VERY limited toilet facilities all around the lake, also, so keep your mouth closed when swimming. Driving back here today from Vegas to St. George, Utah, not one single wreck, but going down a couple of weeks ago, a very lare bulgemobile style travel trailer was strewn for about half a mile. Ah, those weekend warriors. I stay at home. Steve |
