I guess it has more to do with how many fish you are cleaning. In our
last outing, our group of six caught and cleaned over 150 snapper,
grouper, kings, dolphin, and a wahoo. The electric knife won with
about
6-1 over the standard filet knife and the yield was better but we were
under a time constraint with all of those fish so the guy with the
filet

Only six pigs would pull and keep 150 fish out of the ocean. That's 25
fish each.

Oink, oink, oink.

Maybe my bubble butt buddy Harry doesn't realize that fish freezes very

I'm sure you know this but be careful in Ocean World. If it blows up

Yes, we've heard about that. Right now the weather is quite stable
and we're leaving tomorrow for Luperon. We'll stay there a few days
and then head back north to the Turks and Caicos.

In Samana we stayed at the new marina just west of town called Puerto

No. The boat I run is based in Palmas for a while longer. In a few

Let me know if you need a mate for that trip. As an FYI, we were
able to get diesel at the cruise ship dock in Dominica for about
$2.50/US gallon (by appoinment on days with no cruise ship). They
have a sign posted with the phone number. Fuel was good quality.
Green Cay marina in St Croix has good prices also, $3/gallon.

Oink, oink, oink.

Might be the plan was to give some of it to homeless or needy people.
But, I suppose that might not have occurred to one of the me-me-me
folks.

The other possibility is selling them.
When I was fishing in Md the captain had a deal with a fish market in
Rockville to take all the fish off our hands for a reasonable price.
It made the fishing cheaper.
I saw it as a win-win because a lot of people had the chance to eat
reasonably priced fish that was swimming less than 24 hours earlier.
In Florida you do need a "salt water products" license to do that but
it is only money.

Considering that the poster is "larry," i would go with the oink,
oink, oink theory.

Like I said, run with that.

BTW - this was an annual charter trip to the Tortugas. My boat isn't
designed for that type of fishing.

Damn...I thought maybe you had that stroke. Wasn't it scheduled?

No, herring, I am not jealous of pigs. Unless you are a subsistence
fisherman, taking 30+ fish home is...piggery. Taking home one larger
fish or a few small ones, that's sport fishing, for those who keep their
catch.

Let me know if you need a mate for that trip. * As an FYI, we were
able to get diesel at the cruise ship dock in Dominica for about
$2.50/US gallon (by appoinment on days with no cruise ship). * They
have a sign posted with the phone number. *Fuel was good quality.
Green Cay marina in St Croix has good prices also, $3/gallon.

I'll keep you in mind. I want to have 6 on board as we go from Grenada
to the ABCs for security reasons.

Thanks for the fuel price updates. The fuel here in Palmas is $2.75 a
gal.

Where do you stay in the T&Cs?

South Side Marina about 2 miles east of Provo.

http://www.southsidemarina-tci.com/

A very friendly and accomodating place, although limited to about 5
1/2 ft draft on the entrance channel. We stayed there on the way
south and will go back again later this week.

Sad that any so-called cruiser has an umbilical connected to marina after
marina.

Try a sailboat and break free from all that lubberly crap. Or, better yet,
stay home and stop polluting the environment with your stinkpots.

We spend over 90% of our time anchored out but recognize that marinas
offer very useful services at times. On our way south we needed
supplies and repairs in the Turks and Caicos, both of which were
greatly facilitated by South Side Marina. They are also an official
port of entry with a customs officer always on call which is a major
convenience.

In the Domican Republic the big marinas also offer assistance with on
site customs and immigration which is particularly helpful when you
are dealing with a language barrier plus a complex and somewhat
corrupt system.

True. But between the official fees and the unofficial fees, it was
still less than the official $300 fee to clear in to the Bahamas. Even
for us at 90'. :-)

Yes but I greatly prefer the system in the Bahamas. Once you pay your
$300 you can come and go as you want from island to island with no
additional bureaucracy to deal with. In the Dominican Republic you
can only go legally to another port of entry, no where else, and of
course everyone has their hand out. We are technically in violation
tonight because we want to leave Luperon tomorrow at 6:00 AM but since
there is no provision for that in the rules our zarpa says that we
leaving at 5:00PM today.
