Since the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig exploded on April 20, the Obama administration has granted oil and gas companies at least 27 exemptions from doing in-depth environmental studies of oil exploration and production in the Gulf of Mexico. St George Island on the Florida coast has been nearly destroyed by tourism. Tacky row house type condos cover MY beach and the interior of the island is nothing but poorly built "homes" whose insurance I am forced to subsidize. The destruction to this barrier island is FOREVER (as long as people exist). By contrast, the Chandeleur Islands off LA which are being hit by the oil spill will recover in about 20 years. I'd prefer the oil spill, it is cleaner. |

I have no idea why anyone can buy flood insurance to build on that sort of geography. -- The Tea Party's teabaggers are just the Republican base by another name. |

An oil spill, gone in 30 years, damage done by tourism, forever. I'd rather have the oil spill. Lucky you. It looks like you won't have to make that choice. You have them both. |

The Prince William Sound area was damaged in 1989. It still hasn't recovered and it isn't even close to it. So, basically, you don't want any gov't action, which is fine if you can live with both of these things. |
