The big reason greedy big fat government likes VAT is simple, it gets
everyone. Shares the pain. Instead of punitive taxes on the 30% (or
less) of those that work in non-governmetn jobs and pay any signifigant
amout of taxes, it isn't limited to the 30%. It gets 100% of us.
