My prop is a PerfectPitch plastic one which is a massive plastic casting, very lightweight and I really like it and I was afraid it had been ruined. When it arrived, I could barely recognize it because it looked melted. It was a mass of greyish melted plastic. I started peeling off some of the melted crap. Whoa, there is a prop under all that crap. Bit by bit, I removed all the melted plastic to find my Plastic Perfectpitch prop in perfect condition underneath. Somehow, the crab trap line had melted and then fused to the prop WHILE IN THE WATER. No idea how this happed. So, clean prop, new prop strut and new bottom paint (did you know Trinidad is now $250/gallon) so I am ready to cruise past Cape Coral and thru Lake Okechobee and to Stuart. Wayne, I appreciate your offer for your dock but problems prevented me from taking you up on it. So, I f you happen to see the old 28' sailboat with the bizarro hideous yellow nesting dinghy on the bow, it'll be me. Good luck, man. I hope you can have some better success this time. Froggy should hire someone to follow him in a reliable chase boat...a boat that has been properly maintained and is operated by someone who knows how. It's his only hope. |

When I pulled into Marina Jacks in Sarasota, they had me dock next to a 120' mega-yacht where they were having a formal party aboard complete with a guy in uniform taking peoples invites as they came aboard. So, here I am next to them knowing I gotta get my prop turning again meaning I gotta dive. "F**ck em", I get into my shorts and go into the water with my knife. All the mega-yacht guests looking over their rail 30' above me wandering what that crazy guy is doing. I shoulda charged em for entertainment but I got enough off to allow it to turn. Even well maintained boats have problems. Acquaintance runs a 105' party boat for long range tuna fishing charters. he is 300 miles off Cabo and one prop shaft runs with no drive force. Figured he lost a prop. Dives under to look at the shaft and see a tractor tire has managed to completely enclose the prop. Could not cut off the tire with the equipment aboard. Including scuba gear. 300 miles to Cabo on one engine and have to have the boat drydocked to remove the tire. **** happens. You do not use your boat enough to worry about breakage. |

Yes, Bill, I know...even properly maintained boats can have problems. But the boat under discussion here is poorly maintained. |
