Citronella is partially effective, but there's a lag time for the fumes
to work. And I don't like open flame on my dock. Is there a low-power light that will do the job? I don't like zappers. The noise of insects dying drives me bonkers. |

The wind does diminish the effectiveness. I use one on the deck... it's the best thing I've found so far. Oh, and the hose end "Yard Guard" is good stuff too. You spray your yard, shrubbery and even the exterior surfaces of your house with this stuff. You have to wait for it to dry, and it does wash away in the rain, but for an "event" you can apply in the morning and that afternoon / evening you'll have a nearly bug-free time. |

It will keep everything away. You should be able to buy the plants at your local Garden Center. DO NOT rub it on the skin. |

Some time ago, my dad made a bug chopper using a round flourescent light with a small fan in the middle. Bugs get drawn to the light, get sucked in, and get thrown out the back in little pieces. It worked pretty well actually. I really don't know, but if you can stand the kerosene smell, I've heard Tiki Torches workk pretty good. What was that green coil stuff that smoldered that they used to sell at drive-in movie theater?. Those things were awful! |

Both look good. Y'all may laugh, and I've mentioned this before, but this stuff works for mosquitoes and no-see-ums better than anything else I've ever used. Safe for human use. http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=12313 Eisboch |
