as a beacon by ships trying to find the St Marks River entrance. In
the 1800s, one guy who tried to find it got as close as what is called
"Grey Mare Rock" in the shallows east of St Marks before the extremely
shallow water and low tides forced him to turn around but he did take
a bearing on it.
Winter is the only time a trek in those woods is reasonable.

Above Natural bridge, one can take a canoe as far as Horn Springs but
that is far east of Tallahassee.

It must have been some other little river I encountered...I know it
wasn't one of those 10' deep roadside drainage ditches that were all
over Tallahassee in those days. :)
