Default 8 MIllion dollars...

Over 8 million dollars so far donated to Haiti just from text messages!
The good thing is it's better than pledges as once you make the
donation, it comes directly out of your phone bill and you really can't
"not bother to pay up". Anyway, my point is, 8 million just from the
phone text system from Americans, not even counting the hundreds of
Charities folks are pouring money into. In contrast, India and China
have "pledged" a lousy 1 million dollars each.

Why do we do it, because nobody else will.. God Bless America!

Perhaps, but the Chinese were the first there with a major airlift effort.

The Canadian forces were in early too.
First a Challanger jet flew down with an advance party to scout the need.
Then a Hercules cargo plane followed by one of our new C-17s loaded with
supplies and military personnel. They came back with full loads of Canadian
citizens wanting to get off the island.
Two warships left here yesterday loaded with supplies and 500 sailors to do
light engineering but it's a 5 day sail from here.
