Today I opened my electricity bill to find a golden opportunity for an
Al Gore believer to step forward and do something about global
warming.

Here's the deal:

For only 1.5 cents more per kilowatt-hour of electricity usage, I can
purchase renewable energy certificates equal to 100% of my monthly
usage. As I average about 1000 kWh per month, this would amount to
*only* $15 per month in addition to my normal bill.

So, here is a chance to make a difference. You send me $15 per month,
and I sign up for the program! Then, 100% of my electricity usage will
be from renewable energy sources, to wit: 69% wind and 31% biomass
from facilities in Missouri, Indiana, and Louisiana.

WHAT A DEAL!

I know several of you will want to participate, so I must take the
first offer. Also, as I don't want to jerk the electric company around
every month, I'd like to get a years worth of payment in advance. Just
send a check for $180 and we're good.

Do you seriously think anyone here with half a brain would trust you with
$15? How about this... give me your electric company's phone number and
your
account number. I'll pay them the $180 directly. Put up or shut up.

Cool. Send me an email. I don't want to broadcast my account number
over the internet. There are some folks here who are not very
trustworthy.

I understand your concern. I don't have your email address. You can email me
at .

Better yet, how about I send the info to Tim, and you send the $180 to
Tim?

I'm happy to send him email as well, but I don't have his email address. In
any case, I'm willing to pay the company directly, but I'm not willing to
send you or any individual a check.

Either way, let me know.

Done.

Disregard last. I called Dominion Power to see if it were possible for
you to do what you suggested. It's not possible. The charges *must* be
added to my electric bill.

So, let's look at alternatives. Are you saying there is no one here
that you trust with $180? We're not talking big money here.

If you send the money to Tim, I'll have my account adjusted. Then I
can publish a photo of my statement each month proving that I'm paying
the amount.

How about this... you make the payment (I'm assuming you can afford it),
post a copy of the paid bill with the extra $180, then I'll send you money
order via regular mail. I'm going to France for a short trip beginning on
1/1. Assuming there are no terrorists on the plane, I return Thursday next.
If I see it's been paid, the MO will go out the next business day.

I really don't know anyone on this newsgroup. I prefer to stay anonymous.

I can't pay the entire amount at one time. I can add 15 cents per
kilowatt hour used to my bill. Or, I can tell them to add $14 or $16
per month to my bill. The $180 is an estimate of what the additional
cost per kilowatt hour would be, given the average usage for a year.

I could have them add the 15 cents per kilowatt hour to my monthly
bill. Then I could post a copy of my monthly bill showing the amount
of increase due to the 'greening' of my electricity. Then you could
send me a check for the difference.

Agreed?

warming.
Here's the deal:
For only 1.5 cents more per kilowatt-hour of electricity usage, I
can
purchase renewable energy certificates equal to 100% of my monthly
usage. As I average about 1000 kWh per month, this would amount to
*only* $15 per month in addition to my normal bill.
So, here is a chance to make a difference. You send me $15 per
month,
and I sign up for the program! Then, 100% of my electricity usage
will
be from renewable energy sources, to wit: 69% wind and 31% biomass
from facilities in Missouri, Indiana, and Louisiana.
WHAT A DEAL!
I know several of you will want to participate, so I must take the
first offer. Also, as I don't want to jerk the electric company
around
every month, I'd like to get a years worth of payment in advance.
Just
send a check for $180 and we're good.
Do you seriously think anyone here with half a brain would trust you
with
$15? How about this... give me your electric company's phone number
and
your
account number. I'll pay them the $180 directly. Put up or shut up.

Cool. Send me an email. I don't want to broadcast my account number
over the internet. There are some folks here who are not very
trustworthy.
I understand your concern. I don't have your email address. You can
email
me
at .

Better yet, how about I send the info to Tim, and you send the $180 to
Tim?
I'm happy to send him email as well, but I don't have his email address.
In
any case, I'm willing to pay the company directly, but I'm not willing
to
send you or any individual a check.

Then I
can publish a photo of my statement each month proving that I'm paying
the amount.

All decisions, even those of liberals, are the result of binary
thinking.

How about this... you make the payment (I'm assuming you can afford it),
post a copy of the paid bill with the extra $180, then I'll send you money
order via regular mail. I'm going to France for a short trip beginning on
1/1. Assuming there are no terrorists on the plane, I return Thursday
next.

Agreed?

Sure... either way is fine! I just don't want to send multiple MOs, since my
bank charges for more than a couple per year.

I was just tweaking you with the other email about plonking.

Well, if you sent me a check for the difference, you'd have to be
sending it every month.

The best way is for you to send $180. I then have Dominion add the 15
cent charge per kilowatt hour. Then every month I'll post a picture of
my bill.

If I fail to do so you can call me a liar and a cheat. Since I'm not
Harry, that would really bother me.

Bored today John? Talking to that fake lawyer again.

Hell, I'm trying to give her a way to put her money where her mouth
is. You'd think these liberals would be jumping all over this idea,
but they keep finding reasons to prolong the discussion.

I guess they'd rather send a few thousand to Algore to buy 'carbon
credits', hee hee.

I seem to recall you being called out on money that someone had donated to
your daughters charity drive last year. Jim something or other. I'm sure
I'm not the only one.

How about I send you a double amount at the end of the first quarter? That
way, you've proved you're actually going to do it, and I've put up some
money going forward. Assuming I see an update credit at the end of two
quarters (at which point we'll be even), I'll send the balance.
