I've heard cherry is a good alternative to teak and was wondering
about
using the plastic deck lumber for things like handholds, toe and rub
rails.
Anyone here have experience with plastic lumber for exterior trim?

I used 4/5 x 6 plastic lumber for a base ring for my console. It seems
to be holding up great but it is not particularly pretty.

Trex also has some really nice looking deck boards. More expensive, but
look
good. Brasilia or someing liike that.

I have had this stuff on my boat since it was all gray. I agree they
are making more variety now. Azek is another brand.
This plastic works just like wood with regular woodworking tools.

What do you use it for? I was thinking hand rails and maybe the rub rail
on
a dink.

I just have a ring under my console right now, repairing a bad spot
that I cut off. Just be aware that plastic is not as rigid as wood so
if you are spanning something you need about twice as much support. In
my case the load is totally in compression so that is not a problem.

Thanks.
