Very interesting. Those outboards look OLD.

I grew up in Henderson, Nevada. Every year, they had the Sahara Gold Cup
Races at Lake Mead. They were unlimited hydroplanes, and at that time, the
top of the line were the Allison V-16 airplane engines. Names like Miss
Bardahl, Miss Seattle, Miss Wahoo, and others that I cannot recall right
now. It was quite a spectacle, visible plainly from the public beach, free
to the public, and out on a huge open bowl of water.

I had never seen these smaller versions, but it look like it was quite a
production, and there's obviously a lot of dollars there. The background
even looks somewhat like Lake Mead.

I thought it wwas interesting to see the mechanical drive tachometer
located in the center of the flywheel.

I remember wondering what that was. Never saw anything like it.

Yeah - I was wondering about that myself. I figured it was some kind
of cylinder timing advice.

My Dad has owned a C stock hydro for several years, has a driver. I've
driven it a few times (however I'm too big to drive the hydro
competitively), what amazed me about the video was that none of the drivers
were wearing helmets. That's just crazy!

Very cool, thanks for sharing.

25+ years ago when I lived at vincennes Indian the local boat club
invited the Hydro guys to come in and race. it was interesting with
the high revving outboards with the cut down props. cut so hard that
they couldn't take off by themselves and had to be pushed to get
rolling.

In leu of the big events at Evansville's "Thunder on the Ohio" the
small race at Vincennes was apropraitely called "Farts on the Wabash"

It was a blast to watch , but unfortunately it was too costly to put
on the event so it delapidated after about 5 years.

Back when my buddy and I were about 18, we almost bought a Crackerbox hydro.
Maintenance costs were what stopped us.
