![]() It's over. Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh, leads by 3,105 votes with 3,072 absentee ballots left to be counted. With 58.6 percent of all absentees counted, Mr. Hoffman has gained 71 votes on Mr. Owens so far. Steve Singiser: Why did Hoffman concede in the first place? That I’d credit to the campaign’s overconfidence. They went into election day planning for a clear victory. Hoffman bragged to me, and to other reporters, that he hadn’t even talked to Dede Scozzafava, the ousted GOP candidate, because he’d “win without her.” When votes started coming in far, far below their expectations, they lost hope very quickly. So a political neophyte who had grown convinced that his victory was assured, and that he was the new conservative superstar, learns instead that the voters of the 23rd district do not share the fervor for him found within the teabagger crowd. Shellshocked, and no doubt more than a little embarrassed, he coughs out a quick and painful statement of concession, wanting to leave the stage as quickly as possible. |

Delicious...from CBS News: There are not enough outstanding votes left for Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate who conceded-and-then-unconceded following his apparent loss in the closely-watched NY-23 House race, to catch his opponant. The Watertown Times reports that Democrat Bill Owens now leads Hoffman by 3,105 votes with only 3,072 absentee ballots to be counted. Even if every one of those ballots went to Hoffman, he still couldn't close the gap. Hoffman formally announced Wednesday that he was withdrawing his election night concession, echoing a comment on Glenn Beck’s radio show. He blamed community-organizing group ACORN for stealing the election, though he provided no evidence. Owens was sworn into Congress earlier this month, and he voted in favor of the health care reform bill that narrowly passed the House. There is speculation that Hoffman's decision to question the election is a fundraising gambit aimed at recouping some of the personal funds he spent on the race. Hoffman's Web site features a story entitled "VIRUS in the VOTING MACHINES" that alleges "The computerized voting machines used by many voters in the 23rd district had a computer virus - tainting the results, not just from those machines known to have been infected, but casting doubt on the accuracy of counts retrieved from any of the machines." Virus in the brain is more likely... :) -- If you are flajim, herring, loogy, GC boater, johnson, topbassdog, rob, achmed the sock puppet, or one of a half dozen others, you're wasting your time by trying to *communicate* with me through rec.boats, because, well, you are among the permanent members of my dumbfoch dumpster, and I don't read the vomit you post, except by accident on occasion. As always, have a nice, simple-minded day. |

Who'll get shot first, President Obama or Glenn Beck. |
