Speaking of gratuitous genuflection, I've heard through the grapevine that the President is unofficially rehearsing for what he expects to receive from the Queen of England in an invitation to be knighted, with the understanding that he will invariably earn the honor in the future (a kind of 'ROI'al investment). I guess you guys never heard of Eisenhower or Nixon bowing. I'm familiar with the Brezhnev-Connors hug. It's one thing to comport oneself with appropriate diginity and with respect for others, it's another to act obsequiously. It's not befitting a president of the United States and leader of the free world, even if the President deems it to be a necessary symbolic gesture. It's a symbol rooted in a naive ideology. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service -------http://www.NewsDemon.com------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access |

I'm not a big fan of a president bowing, but if someone wants to criticize Obama, there are many more things of greater import than that. For example, I think he should be more forceful re the healthcare debate. Perhaps he's done this behind closed doors, but it needs to be in public. He needs to stop dithering wrt gays in the military. We're losing good people for no earthly reason. He needs to continue to defend (and loudly) a woman's right to choose to terminate a pregancy. The bill that passed in the House is an abomination, and it is an attempt to do an end run around the legality of the procedure. He needs to unleash Holder to fully investigate wrong-doing wrt to torture. He needs to be more forceful wrt to environmental issues, e.g., cleaning up the Hudson river (just read an article about it in Harpers). I'm sure there are other things, but bowing is just a right wing talking point and has no substance. -- Nom=de=Plume |

Add that he's working on a huge inititive in health care and it's a risky combo. |

I was getting my hair done earlier in the year, right after Michelle started the organic garden. Some ditz was sooooo upset about it, claiming it was "demeaning" to the office (or to the White House... I couldn't figure out which). She went on and on about it. Finally, I had enough, told her she was an idiot, and that the original "victory" gardens saved money and food for our troops in WWII. They have a long tradition.
