I think they are... I have a truly ancient F-100, I think it's a 1961. V8. Runs great. I haul all kinds of stuff on a weekly basis. I think a small family could live in the engine compartment (along with the engine). I watched a friend actually climb in and mostly close the hood during a short rain sprinkle.
