70 is a cool day here in south FL once you get acclimated and your
blood thins out a little, even in January/February. You feel it most
coming out of a heated pool into the air.

I caught a chill the other night getting out of the pool. It was down
to 84 or so but there was a breeze.

We had a frost warning last week.
Try getting out of your pool into that!

Not to worry...you wouldn't want to live in SW Florida. Nice place to
visit, though. :)

I did the Orlando, Tampa, St Petes thing with the family a number of years
ago.
Except for the warm temps,,,didn't see any compelling reason to return.
When I do...it'll be the South Miami down through the Keys tour.
There are lots of neat Caribbean Islands I'd like to see in the meantime.

You'll need a bigger boat to see the islands. But your current one
should be just right for the everglades. You might want to swap your
lower unit for a jet though.

Harry is right, spread the word. It really sucks here. Come visit,
spend some money, then go back where it is nicer.

Even with the giveaway real estate deals...I wouldn't live there...too
frippin' hot and muggy for moi.

That is hot tub weather. Once you get super heated in 102-104F water,
you can walk around for a while before you get cold.
I have been up north, I just don't want to do it any more.

I was up nawth this summer. Wearing a jacket in July is not my cup of tea.

We had a real cold year... Global Taxing you know...;) We got washed
out. Something like three days without rain in July or something like
that I heard... I know we did not have one weekend where it didn't rain
friday and saturday night, all night long...:(

The thing I like about here is the mangroves and back water that you
won't find in St Pete/Tampa. I had a condo in Treasure Island and my
parents lived there from the 60s. My grandfather lived in St Pete in
the early 50s. I spent summers there for most of my life. That place
went from a sleepy little town with sparsely populated barrier islands
to a crowded dredge and fill metropolis in my lifetime.
That is why I work with the environmentalists here to try to preserve
what we have. The chain of aquatic preserves from Lemon Bay to Estero
Bay is the biggest protected estuary system in the world. It is worth
saving.

I feel the same way about the Chesapeake Bay, but it's needing a lot
of help. We'll see if the 'environmentalists' currently in vogue can
do anything for the bay.

The Everglade's channels are dredged to 12' or so.

If you are in a dredged channel you really are not in the Everglades,
at least not in the sense of getting back in the swamp.I am not even
sure where a dredged channel would be ... Flamingo?
Maybe some of the COE drainage canals? (just be aware they are
filling those in.)
There are still some pretty deep cuts but they are natural.
You can get up in there pretty far if you can run in 2 feet of water
but if you really want to go anywhere you need an air boat. I suggest
getting aerial photos. It is a better idea of what you are getting
into than the cartoon display on a GPS.
I suppose now days you can get google earth on your boat tho. I am old
school.
