I am not sure I have ever seen a politician who could excite school
kids, unless it was Mary Carey.
Adolescent boys would be riveted.

Richard M. Nixon and John F. Kennedy made separate open, outdoors,
public appearances in New Haven when I was in high school. We got out of
school early so we could attend. We were...excited. The speeches weren't
bad, either.

Nixon spoke on the New Haven Green. I forgot where Kennedy spoke. It was
about a 10-block walk from the high school to the Green. Big blocks. We
got out two hours early!
