What is a 'new tube'?

Jees -- first 'steampunk' and now 'new tubes'. My little mind can't
take all this new stuff.

Can she change out a flat tire? Something I have done a few times this
year.. LOL.

So a guy walks into a talent agents office with a dog.. He says "my dog
can talk". The agent says, "OK, let's see".

So the guy asks the dog what is on top of a house, the dog barks out
"roof".

Then the guy asks the dog, what is sand paper like, the dog says "ruff"

Then he asks the dog who the greatest ball player in history was, the
dog says "ruth"...

The agent tired of this kicks the two of them out of his office.. On the
way out the dog looks at his master and states plainly, "Maybe I should
have said DiMaggio??".

Later... RMR.

No. She doesn't have her bike anymore. The DC traffic is not fun for
riding, and it takes forty-five minutes to get out of it to decent
roads. She says she'll get another bike when we move to someplace
without all the traffic.

I've never had to change a tube while on the road. Lucky me. I've got
the tools, but the one time I tried to take the tire off, I couldn't
get it off. Of course, that wasn't an emergency situation, like on a
back road in Texas with rattlesnakes circling.

I have been on some pretty exciting roads right here in the good old
USA.
The road up to Mt Washington is pretty hairy on a foggy day and Iron
Mountain Road in SD near Mt Rushmore is exciting but the logging roads
up in the mountains of virtually any western state have to rank pretty
high, not only because of sheer cliffs and no guard rails but by the
possibility of coming up on a logging truck coming the other way.
We had fun on the back road from Big Sur into the Liggett Army Base in
California last week.

A couple brothers and I are taking off Monday for a motorcycle trip
through NY, VT, NH, and ME. Looking forward to some good roads up
there too.

That Mt Washington rd would be cool on a bike. It is around Conway NH.
There are some nice little country roads all through northern NH and
VT.

On this trip, the youngest of the five boys is doing the trip routing.
It's his chance to excell. If the twisties get exceptional, then I'll
let the Guzzi go and wait for the two Harley's at the other end.

The Naciemento Ferguson road as I recall. Rode it many times back
when I was stationed at Hungy Maggot Lifer Reservation (official name
Hunter Liggett Military Reservation)

The road up Carmel Valley that comes out near Greenfield used to be
pretty cool as well.

Yup that's the one

and my obligatory picture with cannon (on a tank this time)

http://gfretwell.com/ftp/california/tank.jpg

Another thing that makes the Naciemento Ferguson road a little more
dangerous than some.

About 20 years ago, a nice new pickup went off the road. Still there
probably. Not much damage, but cost more to retrieve it than the truck
cost. I used to hunt pigs at Hunter Liggett. Because when Heast sold the
property to the government for a pittance, he put it in the deed
restrictions that the public was allowed hunting access on weekends and
holidays. Had been his hunting camp. The headquarters is a Moorish Castle
that Hearst built for his hunting camp. Very steep drop offs on the road to
the coast. When you hunt there they give you instructions to avoid any
munitions and to mark with a white paper of cloth in the area and tell the
MP's the area where you found the stuff.

We saw a lot of hunters going into Liggett when we were coming out on
the valley side.

Have not hunted in probably 25 years. But was a nice place to go in those
days. Used to be a great pizza parlor in Jalon, but Jalon seemed to be dead
the last time I went there. I think the troop draw downs killed it.

The first bright lights and a motel my wife would sleep in was King
City.

Should have gone over the hill to the ocean side and asked for a room at
Hearst Castle. Some nice places and very good food in Cambria. Brambles
was a favorite, but they lost lease after 30 years.

Cambria is a lot cheaper. Kirk Creek Campground in the area is rated as one

Rowdy:

A.A n.1 Originally, a backwoodsman of a rough and lawless type; hence, a
rough, disorderly person; one addicted to quarreling, fighting, or
disturbing the peace: a.A.a In American use, or with ref. to America.

Just buy her a $1.5 million Prevost camper and she might change her mind.
But would be cheaper to stay at Rock Creek Ranch.

Bed bugs etc in those hotels. The Prevost is nicer than the hotels you can
afford. And I also use hotels. Later this month will be in the Red Lion in
Seattle. But when I go to remote lakes, I love my camper over a tent. And
was nice for a little drive to Alaska 4 years ago. Was nicer than a lot of
the motels we saw on the trip, and did not have to worry about where we
would be the next night.

Can you imagine staying in a hotel room after Krause has been there.
They don't fumigate the rooms enough to clean up after him.

Should have gone over the hill to the ocean side and asked for

We stopped at the Post Ranch Hotel and it was $1200 a night.
Cambria is a lot cheaper. Kirk Creek Campground in the area is
rated as one
of best campgrounds in America. Fantastic views on the seashore.
My wife's idea of camping is warming up leftovers in the
microwave in
our suite.
Just buy her a $1.5 million Prevost camper and she might change
her mind. But would be cheaper to stay at Rock Creek Ranch.
Campgrounds were fun when I was a Boy Scout... :)

B.S. campgrounds are a lot different than RV parks. And sleeping in
a Prevost RV is like being in a long, very upscale home. My truck
camper is a lot different than a tent. Not large, but nice heater,
queensize bed, stove and indoor plumbing.

How nice. I'd rather stay in a nice hotel than your truck camper.

Man, I used to really like camping but now it kinda' sucks. Of course
it's different when you are there to work;)

Rowdy Mouse Racing, oh ****, did the Grand Prix run yet!

I like camping. Just need to be set up for it.

Yeah, I am pretty well set up as far as gear, coolers, electricity,
shower.... What we do on race day would be trying living at home and I
am just getting sick of the torrential downpours every night;)

Yeah, you've had your share of rain, that's for sure!

But you've got to remember, Harry is a fat blob, therefore probably has
sleep apnea and other disorders.

Camping has come a long way since Harry's days of sleeping on the ground
in a fart sack.

In the ten or so camping weekends we have had this year, I can't
remember even one where it didn't rain (pour like hell) the night before
the race(s)... One of our sponsors gave me a ticket to the Nationals a
few weeks back and I have never been there. Woke up and it was raining,
sent The Mouse but I stayed home. Just didn't want to be at Southwick in
the rain again... ;)

My neighbor is currently making a path towards where we were in
California but he is doing it in a $200,000 motor home.
We figured for the 20-30 days a year he uses it, staying at the Hilton
would be a lot cheaper. The thing you don't hear a lot about is how
much stuff breaks on these things and the guys who work on them are
yacht mechanics who wanted to make more money.

You can spend twice that much for a *used* Prevost.
