Jees -- first 'steampunk' and now 'new tubes'. My little mind can't take all this new stuff. Can she change out a flat tire? Something I have done a few times this year.. LOL. No. She doesn't have her bike anymore. The DC traffic is not fun for riding, and it takes forty-five minutes to get out of it to decent roads. She says she'll get another bike when we move to someplace without all the traffic. I've never had to change a tube while on the road. Lucky me. I've got the tools, but the one time I tried to take the tire off, I couldn't get it off. Of course, that wasn't an emergency situation, like on a back road in Texas with rattlesnakes circling. -- John H "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." I have been on some pretty exciting roads right here in the good old USA. The road up to Mt Washington is pretty hairy on a foggy day and Iron Mountain Road in SD near Mt Rushmore is exciting but the logging roads up in the mountains of virtually any western state have to rank pretty high, not only because of sheer cliffs and no guard rails but by the possibility of coming up on a logging truck coming the other way. We had fun on the back road from Big Sur into the Liggett Army Base in California last week. A couple brothers and I are taking off Monday for a motorcycle trip through NY, VT, NH, and ME. Looking forward to some good roads up there too. That Mt Washington rd would be cool on a bike. It is around Conway NH. There are some nice little country roads all through northern NH and VT. On this trip, the youngest of the five boys is doing the trip routing. It's his chance to excell. If the twisties get exceptional, then I'll let the Guzzi go and wait for the two Harley's at the other end. -- John H "Vote for a Democrat, it's easier than working!" |

Still there probably. Not much damage, but cost more to retrieve it than the truck cost. I used to hunt pigs at Hunter Liggett. Because when Heast sold the property to the government for a pittance, he put it in the deed restrictions that the public was allowed hunting access on weekends and holidays. Had been his hunting camp. The headquarters is a Moorish Castle that Hearst built for his hunting camp. Very steep drop offs on the road to the coast. When you hunt there they give you instructions to avoid any munitions and to mark with a white paper of cloth in the area and tell the MP's the area where you found the stuff. |

The first bright lights and a motel my wife would sleep in was King City. Should have gone over the hill to the ocean side and asked for a room at Hearst Castle. Some nice places and very good food in Cambria. Brambles was a favorite, but they lost lease after 30 years. |

But when I go to remote lakes, I love my camper over a tent. And was nice for a little drive to Alaska 4 years ago. Was nicer than a lot of the motels we saw on the trip, and did not have to worry about where we would be the next night. |
