It is not OK but you either have to loosen privacy laws about crazy people or risk the danger of them buying guns. BTW the NRA says the instant check should include mental health records. It is the left who says that should remain private.- and it's the NRA that opposes any restrictions on guns at all. it opposed instant checks. it opposed taking guns away from crazy people, wife abusers, etc. in fact gun control is meaningless. we need to repeal the 2nd amendment and ban guns completely. If that is your desire I suggest you get started on the process to amend the Constitution.- if only i had the time. i work for a living. reply: *Wow, that's a plausible excuse. *So, what it amounts to is that you really do not believe in what you belive in enough to work to make it happen. *Do I have it right? uh no. i work for a living. unlike you rich folkkks SOMEONE has to work to support you. |

They extend the period just after sunset when the deer, for example, show themselves, as they can be used in dimmer light than iron sights. The iron sights have advantages: lighter and more compact, more rugged [usually], cheaper. Casady I agree. But in the context of the conversation, the poster was not even using the proper terminology for iron sights, showing a lack of knowledge. There are a lot of people who own guns who really don't understand them, or are able to use them with much proficiency. They always want bigger magazines and larger caliber, plus anything other gimmick that will compensate for lack of skill and experience. Steve If you are referring to me...why would I call sights that are NOT iron sights iron sights? The stock sights on my rifle are fiber optic, front and rear. I understand the etymology of the phrase, iron sights, but in some instances it is outmoded, even if what has superseded it sort of resembles "iron sights." Now, my Sig pistol, it has "iron sights." |

Look at the votes on Gramm-Leach-Bliley. 155 house democrats and 38 democratic senators voted for it Bill Clinton signed it into law yep because they got stampeded...just like you have...by the myth of the 'free market'. even after the biggest collapse in US history you still thump your chest and tell us how the markets need to be deregulated. Bill Clinton was in front of that stampede. Did you watch the signing? He was telling us this was the best thing since sliced bread. of course he did. many of us bought the free market kool aid and politicians ignored it at their peril. just look at how true believers like yourself continue to hang onto this little security blanket of the 'rich will protect us'. I never said that I am saying you can't trust the democrats to save you either. In fact it was the democrats who killed H.R.4161 in 2005 that would have regulated Fannie/Freddie and would have tempered this housing crisis. That was Dodd and Frank. the GOP controlled congress in 2005. it was not until 2006 that the democrats were a majority The GOP did not have a filibuster proof senate.- which, of course, is irrelevant to your point. the fact is the GOP deregulated markets allowing CDO's to balloon to sixty two trillion dollars. anyone older than 5 years old would have known that was unsustainable. but the free market fundamentalists in the GOP steam rollered the political machinery to make regulation impossible. You continue to ignore the fact that Clinton did that, in the same way Bush did all the things we say he did. It happened on his watch and he could have vetoed the bill. He did exactly the opposite and championed it while it was flowing through congress with significant democratic support. I agree they all drank the Kool aid but "all" is the operative word. To call this a GOP problem is not intellectually honest. Bear in mind this was the same time that we were applauding Enron, Worldcom, Adelphia and a host of other frauds as being "prosperity". Greenspan was really the only one who was warning us that this might just be an illusion but even he was half hearted about it. It is very similar to the way we were relishing the housing market in 2006. I have to say, I knew enough to dump my home builder stocks the day I heard Centex had stopped building "inventory" houses. The signs were there. You just had to look. And it was Rubin's, Clintons Sec of Treasury who pushed Glass-Steagall dumping. Before he went to CitiBank and made it Citigroup. A pox on both parties. |

IOW you're agreeing with my point: the free market has failed. we gave the rich EVERYTHING they asked for and what it resulted in was a wholesale plunder of the middle class thanks. i already knew that. It happened on his watch and he could have vetoed the bill. He did exactly the opposite and championed it while it was flowing through congress with significant democratic support. hey genius...guess who controlled congress when he signed the bill the G....O.....P I agree they all drank the Kool aid but "all" is the operative word. To call this a GOP problem is not intellectually honest. what's intellectually honest is to admit the free market has failed. regulated, controlled markets, not free market capitalism, are the way to ensure that this mess doesn't happen again. that includes state sponsored health insurance |

That is not a logical leap. your argument is that making something illegal increases demand and is ineffective at driving down the incidence of that event. You only have to look at "prohibition" to see the problem with banning anything. you're right. let's let all the rapists and murderers free There is a significant difference between banning objects and making violent crimes illegal. violent crimes are banned. by your logic, everyone should be involved in murder and rape because they're illegal. the only way to stop murder is to legalize it. fine. i'm willing to live with a small criminal enterprise instead of the LARGE one we have now. Why do you thing gun running would be a small enterprise? because today we have 300,000,000 guns in the country. that volume of business would gather some attention if it were illegal. |

There is a lot of attention gathered by the drug business but that doesn't stop it. You still haven't said how you would make those disappear. i already did. sorry you can't read The idea that you could stop the import of ammo is ludicrous. The world is awash in it from all of our military misadventures. You also have the problem that the equipment to reload ammo is everywhere. Guys will be dusting off their old Rock Chuckers and rolling their own. fine. it takes 25 years to get rid of guns? so what? None of this affects criminals. They don't use that much ammo. They usually shoot people with the bullets that were in the gun when it was stolen. ah. stolen. from gun owners who are too irresponsible to control access to their weapons yes, i know that. that's another reason to ban guns. gun owners are too irresponsible to have them. BTW using your number (300,000,000) that makes cars more dangerous than guns. 200,000,000 cars kill more people than 300,000,000 guns. Maybe we should ban them too. (I know, the "green" people are trying) cars have a use. guns dont |

Casady We bike on what is known locally as the American Chestnut Land Trust, a spot of land originally established to protect a large chestnut tree. The trust now has several thousand wooded acres. There are efforts long underway in Maryland to try to grow American chestnut trees, and there have been many efforts to try to clone a blight-resistant variety. I remember a couple of chestnut trees in fields behind where our house was in New Haven, and the pods in which the chestnuts grew. I'm sure the trees are long-gone now. They were big, beautiful trees with large leaves. |
