Yep, made our yearly trip from Moncks Corner, SC to Charleston last
weekend. Put in on the Cooper River Friday morning, rode the locks up and back down to Lake Moultrie, then headed down to Charleston. We had a great time Friday, arrived in Chas about 6pm to tie up at the Ashley Marina, right beside the City Marina on the Ashley River. Went and had a great dinner, then spent the night in the Courtyard Marriott Waterfront, and headed back out Saturday morning. We roamed around the harbor, then took the Wahoo Cut (not sure of the name) over to the Stono River. Tons of traffic... it turns out that the Rockville Regatta was that weekend, and there were a bunch of boats headed that way. Among plenty of others, we were passed by a 40+ foot Fountain... sounded like a freaking airplane. We ran up the river to the top of John's Island, then turned around and headed down to the inlet. No desire to get involved in the regatta. We stopped for gas at a marina on the Stono, and filled up for $2.99/ gallon. Not bad. Continued on to the inlet, and anchored on the beach at Kiawa Island in sight of the breakers. Hung out for a while. Then back to the hotel for another night out on the town... more great food. There were four boats in our group, and we all hit the water Sunday morning to head back up the river about 10:30. Took a lazy cruise, and made it back to the launch about 3pm. The rain held off until one of the guys was backing my trailer down the ramp, then the wall of rain hit me. Soaked me as I was putting the boat back on the trailer. Everyone else was in the tow vehicle. Oh well... third year, and the first soaking I've had. Not bad in SC in July/August. All in all, great fun. We had 7 aboard our boat... my wife and I, 2 other couples for their second time, and my BIL for his first. Now they're talking about an October trip. Not so sure about that. :-) Hope you got out on yours... :-) |

Um...dunno. :) Probably not then - he's getting married on the 21st. :) Although.... So, somewhere between 5 and 10 snerk. Send our best wishes! |

I don't live there, but you're right... if I did , I'd likely know Mr. Harper. It's a fairly small town situated on the Cooper River and just a couple of miles from Lake Moultrie. It's name came from the fact that there's a monastery on the river. |
