Looks like they were being towed. They were being towed. If you think that was bad, well my experience didn't end up in a crash but this is what I experienced. Ever hear of the Cortez motor home? I had one for many years up until two years ago when I finally, sadly, had to get rid of it. It's a very heavy, handmade, class A 1971 made Clark Corp. 21 footer. One day my engine conked out and I called a friend who had a Chevy or Ford 4x4 that could pull it to the shop with no problem. We used a nylon strap to tow. As he started going forward he began to gain speed. He was doing about 25 which was not too bad except we had to negotiate some sharp right and left turns. Well, he must have thought I had the engine on and using power steering. The beast is a front-wheel drive Olds Toronado 455 and very heavy on the front wheels. You can imagine I freaking out trying to get his attention as he whizzed on the turns with me maddingly straining to turn the steering wheel while trying to avoid going in a straight line in a right hand turn. We made it ok, but I wanted to kill him after we stopped. He never even looked back to see how I was doing. Those were the days before cell phones. My frantic waving and yelling did no good. Eddie |
