Both CBS and ABC, at least, show videos that give more credence to the claim

"Trim?" Where did you get that? Just curious.
Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours.

I'm pretty sure "trim" predates Eddie Murphy by at least a decade or
two, probably more.

Found this on the web. Haven't come across anything that really
"nails" the origins but this sounds pretty good...

Q.: How did the word "trim" come to be slang for vagina?
- Richard L.

A.: Not much is known about its origins. What I was able to find
comes from Cassell's Dictionary of Slang. It originates as U.S.
African American slang from the 1930s and possibly owes its roots to
the Standard English definition of trim: neat, attractive or pretty.

Compliments of the OED:

trim, n.

7.II.7 U.S. slang. A woman; sexual intercourse with a woman.

1955 Amer. Speech XXX. 302 Chick, crazy freak, local talent, neat
job, snatch, talent, trim, unfair sex, n., girl, usually pretty. Often
used to refer to a woman of loose morals. [1961 Rigney & Smith Real
Bohemia p. xvii, Trim, cunnilingus.] 1962 E. Lacy Freeloaders vi. 125
The broad isn't worth it, no trim is. 1974 H. L. Foster Ribbin',
Jivin', & Playin' Dozens v. 191 Female student: ‘Somebody always askin
for some trim and haven't even got anything.’
