I have been doing it for two seasons now. I measured the water temperature at the powerhead with a laser unit at about 90 degrees. I am getting ready to advise that my neighbor do the same thing and I just wanted to hear some comments first. What will it hurt? Mike The new computer 4 strokes won't run without a thermostat. It detects a fault and puts you in "limp home"mode. Any idea how it detects it the missing thermostat? Based on temperature or the physically missing part? It looks for proper operating temperature after a given period of time. Cars will throw a code for this too but they don't seem to give as noticeable a "limp home" mode. When I had the thermostat self destruct in my 60 merc it was pretty much idle speed and beeping when I removed it. I thought about wedging the plate open and putting it back in but I was not that far from the house. It turned out I had a spare used one in my tool box but I didn't see it until I knew I had the "won't run without one" problem. I felt lucky I got the housing off and back on once without dropping something in the water and I wasn't pushing my luck. Speaking of a self-destructing thermostat, here is what I removed from my neighbors boat. No wonder he had an overtemp alarm. http://www.thespaceexplorers.com/mis...tat_broken.jpg And if you missed the salty one I had in my motor check this out http://www.thespaceexplorers.com/misc/thermostat.jpg |
