Well, not quite.

One of the things we really like about cruising is going out exploring
in the dinghy. This afternoon we found a nice beach on an island
north of Green Turtle Cay that appeared to be deserted. Less than two
minutes after landing however, a couple of local inhabitants came out
to greet us. After polite apologies were offered, we were allowed to
leave quickly and quietly:

I'd estimate about 30 inches high at the shoulder so definitely not
babies. No tusks fortunately but that could be a function of gender,
not sure though.

Any wild boar experts out there?

Were they being aggressive? I've heard that they can be, especially
the males. I know of one hunter that was chased up a tree by a wild
boar *with* tusks!

Actually they are not boars but relatives of the hippopotamus family.

They are a danger to dogs.

No overt agression, seemed like mostly curiousity and perhaps hope for
a handout. We have wild boars with tusks on a barrier island in south
Florida. They are very dangerous looking and I would not stay around
them long enough to take a picture.

I saw a program called "Pig Bomb" last evening on the telly. It seems that
introduced domesticated pigs became feral, and then have interbred with
introduced Eurasian strains producing hogs up to 1200#.

My BIL lives in Montgomery Texas, and pig control/eradication is about all
them tough Texas boys can handle, and they've been through the mill with
breaking wild horses and Brahma bulls.

It's spread from 19 to 40 states, and coming to a doorstep near you.
Attacks within households and on personal property are common place.

I would expect it will get much worse before better.

Not an expert, but the tusks are actually the continuous growing canine
teeth, so both males and females will have them. However, on males, they
tend to be longer so as to be more visible.

Not that I'd be able to tell the difference, but those may not be wild
boar at all. They could be feral pigs.

it from your photos and from what you have written about yourself and

it, what with the baby motorcycle in there. Right?- Hide quoted text -

Deflecting? Let's get down to brass tacks here, ****-for-brains. Why
would I want to take a detour from a pleasure trip to encounter trailer
trash like you? If I want to see stupid, I just have to turn on the news
and watch for a clip of the Rubble, er, Palin family.

The pigs aren't the problem, the Texans are. Most are fat, road hunters who
don't go more than 50 feet from a vehicle or a blind. Then they want $300
bucks per pig for out of staters to come and help solve the problem. It will
get much worse.

I saw a program called "Pig Bomb" last evening on the telly. It seems
that introduced domesticated pigs became feral, and then have interbred
with introduced Eurasian strains producing hogs up to 1200#.

You have a "face pussy"?

Justhate, aka face pussy, talks big and tough because he knows no one is
going to drive up to his dumpy part of Connecticut to call him out.
Crikey, the guy is short, stupid, and plagued with some serious health

I'd estimate about 30 inches high at the shoulder so definitely not
babies. No tusks fortunately but that could be a function of gender,
not sure though.
Any wild boar experts out there?
Well, if you said boors, I'd think they resembled our own JustHate and

Yeah, but both of those boors are just...loud-mouthed pussies.

Since you have never seen me, or even a full photo of me, you have no idea
of my "dimensions," as it were. But we have seen photos of you: you are a
short little **** with a greasy ponytail handle on the back of your head

In other words, you talk tough but there isn't enough of you to back up

What a laugh...how could any of the long term regulars forget when he
thought Basskisser was coming up for one of his psycho visits.
Quick as a wink our Justhate went from a tough guy to a wimpering quivering

Looney. It was truly pathetic.........

Not an expert, but I grew up in the Arizona mountains where peccary javelina
hogs would top out at around 40 lbs and could be mean as hell.

Haven't seen any bears yet but we were surprised by a whole family of
wild hogs on the south end of Cayo Costa two years ago. We hadn't
been on the beach for 30 seconds when ma, pa, kiddies and cousins came
out of the brush and tried to go through our beach bags. We were
trying very hard not to get caught between ma and the kiddies. She
looked tough. They obviously need more alligators out there.

Cool - ok, maybe not so cool, but interesting.

I read something in NatGeo a year or so back and watched a documentary
about feral piggies - it was actually about "Hogzilla" I think, but
there was a long detailed explanation about feral pigs in the
documentary.

Apparently, pigs revert when they go feral - their hair gets long,
tusks grow, they get much more aggressive, they get longer and leaner
and as they are already smart, can become very dangerous. It was
pretty interesting to watch.

About fifteen years or so ago, we had a small group of feral pigs in
and around the Yale Forest which were raising all kinds of hell not
only there, but in the Mashapoug State Forest which is right next to
the Yale. It took about two years to capture them all.

Not sure what they did with them.

"Babe" pretty much proved how smart pigs are.
I think that was based on a true story.
Pigs are really gentle, affectionate and trainable.
An all-around admirable companion for mankind.
After watching that I almost became a vegetarian.
Two things stopped me.
Bacon and baby back ribs.

One of our near neighbors in Jax had a little "Vietnamese" pot-bellied
pig as a pet, along with a couple of dogs. The pig was cute as it could
be, and "hung out" with the two dogs as a sort of friendly, neighborly
pack. Once in a while, the pig would dig a hole under the fence and
"escape" for a few minutes with the dogs. The pig was obviously a lot
smarter than the dogs. Well, I guess that isn't saying much, is it?

Maybe that's where they went. :)

I read something about that last year's hunting season. Haven't heard
