![]() "Jack" wrote in message ... Almost two months ago I bought a CPO Audi A6 from the local dealer, and recently had been wondering why I hadn’t received my registration. I got a phone call this morning from an investigator at the DMV asking to come out and inspect my car. The guy comes to look, and we matched up the dash VIN with the ones on the firewall and in the door jamb. It turns out that my vehicle’s VIN was used to get a title for another car, so I have the original and someone else has the clone. -------------------------- It's incredible how resourceful thieves can be. In this state (MA) you used to be able to buy or sell a car that was 10 or more years old with just a bill of sale. No title was required. Now you must have a title for anything that you purchase, in state or out of state in order to get a registration. I bought a '69 Charger from a museum in Florida and the registration was held up because of a typo in the paperwork. We had to go back to Detroit to get the original information, then have a local town cop come over to my house and verify the VIN. Eisboch |
