Your local machine is configured to playback mp3 files using
Quicktime.

Reconfigure the default settings in your control panel that's used to
set default programs.

Thanks but not so. It's configured to play mp3 via WMP. If I select and
click on an mp3 in a folder it automatically opens with WMP. Plus, this
morning to be sure I checked the default program associations. mp3 is
assigned to WMP.

I don't understand why the webhosting software gives you the choice of
player, but selects QT regardless of selection. No big deal, but it is
curious.

Maybe a restriction of the webhosting service. They configure servers
to support certain file formats. Don't know if this is what's at play
in your case but there's potential.

Not sure it's the server, but I just remembered something. I use Firefox
99.9 percent of the time but had forgotten that it does not support Windows
Media Player. I opened the referenced page in Internet Explorer and sure
enough, the guitar music is played with WMP and not QuickTime.

If you open the link in Firefox, the mp3 of the guitar will play using QT
If you open with IE, it plays with WMP.

It's a Firefox thing.

No it's not - I just clicked on it again in IE 8 and it comes up QT.

That's your problem. :-)

Works fine here. Media Player in IE, QT in Firefox.

Don't ask me anymore questions. I have a headache.

Problem solved - I didn't click on the media-addon for IE8.

How's your headache? :)

Here's some added confusion:

I had installed the plug-in to allow WMP to play in Firefox a while ago in
another computer.
What it did was this: It added play, pause, stop and volume controls to the
little mini QT player.
Before the plug-in, it played with QT but without the controls. After the
plug-in it still played in QT but the controls were added.

That was a while ago and on a XP machine. Maybe the newer plug-in actually
enables WMP.
I'll try it sometime.

I tried it in Firefox and it wouldn't play. Windows played it but asked
if I would allow java script. Talented guy by the way
