Well, it beats the monday morning political hackery.

so... why not?

-----------------------------

Ok. My turn.

Here's an "entrance page" I am working on for possible use with the
music
shop website.
Not done yet, but would be interested if anybody has problems hearing the
guitar recording.
It works fine on my computer, but don't know how it works in general for
everybody else.

The picture, BTW, was taken by my younger son John. He framed it and
gave
it to me for father's day. He has a knack for photography and has a
simple
point and shoot that does some very good close up shots. I modified the
background of the picture to give the shadow and fill to make it blend
into
the website page.

I recorded the guitar selection "live" at the shop last Friday. The
front
door was open, so you can probably hear a car or two driving by, but
otherwise I think it came out ok for a quick, AudaCity computer
recording.
Here's the link: http://www.eisboch.com/enter.html

Works fine - that you?

Have you given any thought to something other than Quick Time? Lot's of
folks refuse to have it on their machines.

Ooops, double senior brain fart. Posted under you instead of Eisboch and I
had RealPlayer in my mind when QuickTime was mentioned.

I'll return to the asylum now.

The software I use to develop the website allows you to use Windows Media
Player, Real Audio or QuickTime. I've tried setting the properties to
WMP, but for some reason it defaults to QuickTime. I haven't figured out
why yet.

Eisboch

Understand. I forgot about Mac owners, they probably use QT. RealAudio is
the real dog.

Good luck with your venture.

Do you have quicktime configured so that it's the default media player
in the Windows environment? That may be why the website software is
defaulting to it.

We mac owners (well, this one, anyway) prefer *.avi format movies,
though I can't say that I've had any problems with QT or QT movies. QT,
as you have guessed, is pretty much an integral part of using a mac.

--------------------

Nope. The guitar file is an .mp3. I have Windows Media Player as the
default for .mp3 files.
The webhosting software (Sitebuilder) allows you to choose Windows Media
Player, Quicktime or Real Audio as the desired player in the properties
menu. I selected WMP and published it to the website, but for some reason
it goes to Quicktime. I've tried several times now, doing it carefully, so
I don't think it's something I am doing wrong.

No big deal. I'd just like to know why.

First, we are talking about .mp3 files, not video files.
However, we PC owners prefer .mp4 format movies. High Definition capable.
QT will play them.

You're using QT for sound files?

Wow.

I prefer *.avi files for movies, even HD movies. Work fine on my HD dvd
player and my HD tv. Since that works just fine, I haven't felt a need
to experiement.

Officially, Microsoft prefers Windows Media (WMV is available in SD
and HD) and Apple prefers Quicktime, delivered as H.264 or MPEG4.

They are both processor intensive.

Your local machine is configured to playback mp3 files using
Quicktime.

Reconfigure the default settings in your control panel that's used to
set default programs.

Apple was a very early adopter of mp4 format.

But I digress.

When you say it defaults to QT, are you exporting the file as a wma
file? You might want to check how it's being converted also - I ran
into that with some videos I was compliling recently.

Also make sure that you are exporting wma files - QT likes to think
that it owns .mp4 files for some reason.
