Greetings Group, I have completed my deck install and new seating and carpet. I will be posting links to the process in a bit. I need to "service" my 3.0 i/o Merc and everything I can...Is there a step by step guide or process anyone can share with me, along with what to get? Or should I resort to the dealer that is not so local?? Thanks in advance!!! Tim Fisher A boating post finally. Thank you. We're looking forward to seeing your work. As far as commissioning your power train, I don't know if there are published step by step directions for you to follow. There is no reason you can't do the get ready yourself unless you come across a task you are not comfortable with taking on. The only exotic tool you might need to do routine maintenance is a engine alignment tool. Service the IO first. Replace the whole water pump assembly while you are changing gear lube , check engine allignment, check for worn or binding parts especially the gimbal bearing. Check that fwd and reverse gear engage and the driveshaft when rotated causes the propshaft to rotate. Remove the prop and grease the shaft as well as the driveshaft and ujoints Look for leaks. If all looks well install the IO using a new gasket set. A tune up and oil/filter change is all the engine needs. Check the V belt and inspect all rubber parts. tighten all hose clamps. When you start the engine you MUST have sufficient water pressure and volume to the "ear muffs" connected to the lower part of the IO. I strongly suggest you order A genuine OEM service manual from Mercruiser. |
