I have a Merc standard clip/bulb gas line. One end has the crimped on clip,
the tank end. The engine clip end has a hose clamp. I would like to take it off, and pressurize it slightly to see if there are any leaks. Spray with water and soap. But, since the open end is on the down side of the bulb, and the bulb only squirts in one direction, how would I check it? Can't put in air from the downside, or it will stop at the one way valve in the bulb, right? Cut the other end off, and put it back on with SS hose clamp after testing? Is this a good way to check this hose? When I squeeze it till hard, and during running, it does not have any visible leaks of gas. The bulb does somewhat collapse. Is this indicative of anything, or should the bulb stay fully inflated during full speed runs? And how do I check out the spring clips for debris? Take them off and blow through with air nozzle tip? Put them in a small pan of gas and work with them to see if I can get particles to fall out? Insert something like a cutting torch tip cleaner rod into them to dislodge crud? Checked ebay, and a new one can be had for $15-$30. Not a lot, but money wasted if there's nothing wrong with this one. Will change that engine located filter this week, and after that, it looks like carb cleaning is on the agenda. Looks like I may have a little time this week, as my 18 yd. stamped concrete patio pour was completed Saturday. Steve |
