Simply amazing these people are still alive.

It's intense if only because of the number of ways these people can
screw up.

The best tonight? The "communications" officer who had never seen a
radar unit before.

Or a ship.

I missed all that and watch Slumdog Millionaire with the wife. she
bought it on dish Network.

Very intriguing movie.

I loved S M, but I didn't get to watch Whale Wars because my wife pouts
so much, I had to change the channel. She doesn't understand the joy
of watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Last night was classic - absolutely classic. It starts off with a crew
party on-board, lots of drunk folks, imposition of a dry ship. Bunch
get ****ed off, including the deck crew and comm officer, and it goes
down hill from there.

None of the deck hands have any experience, the Bosun is one of those
"screamer" types, the new comm officer is a hippy dude who has never
been on a ship before, never worked on radar and (oh, this was the
best part) when hiding in a ice field (in a non-rated ship by the way)
he says "Oh man - just like Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon in Star
Wars").

Obi Wan Watson.

Oh yeah - the secret to a happy marriage?

Separate TVs.

Where is this whale show?

Animal Planet - Friday evening.

The show is a joke, obviously, and it is also obvious that few here are
interested in stopping the slaughter of whales by the Japanese factory
boats. Typical.

Much closer to home, you can get interested in stopping the brutal
slaughter of seals.

No - it's not a joke - it's absoutely serious and that's the joke.

What this douche bag Watson is doing endangers not only his crew, but
his ship and the crews and ships of other nations. Direct
confrontations aren't the answer to the problem. Throwing stink bombs
at crew members isn't the answer. Fouling props at sea, with it's
potential for serious loss of both life and ships, isn't the answer.
Launcing Zodiacs with under trained, under equipped and under powered
boats at night to "attack" a whaling ship isn't the answer. He's as
close as you can come to being a pirate.

He could do so much more - showing the flag, documenting the damage,
pulling long lines - there's a thousand things he could do that would
be more effective and cost his targets much more money.

Instead, he risks his crew's lives and safety to make a point.

He's a moron regardless of the issue.

The word "joke" has a number of meanings. The show is a joke. Certainly,
it is serious, as you say, but the bunglers turned it into a joke.

Thanks. I'll have to watch it upstairs. Desparate Housewives or
something is probably on then. Maybe DWTS! God, I'd hate to miss that.
