Clearly it was a mistake. The guy who's head rolled was likely the
least guilty, as is often the case.

It's common practice to make publicity photos available, been done
plenty of times before.

That the DOD wouldn't allow people to be notified should have
triggered the failsafe button somewhere along the chain of command but
it didn't.

And the poor schmuck who's balls got caught in the vice paid the
price.

Just like the poor schmucks who were guards at Abu Ghraib who did the
time instead of Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush.

The only real mistake was keeping the flyover secret. It could have
been a big PR stunt if everyone knew what was going on. The fighters
could have flown down Broadway at 500 feet between the buildings,
rattling the windows and people would have applauded the show.

Caldera should have insisted that the DOD not keep it secret.

The other option was to scrub and that's what should have happened.

If Caldera wasn't smart enough to know the consequences, he shouldn't
be in the role.
