Just thought I would add an update since it was a group topic recently.

Marina where I have my boat berthed has a lien sale ~every 6 months. I
thought I asked them to include me on their notification list so I could get
an idea of prices and condition. Anyway, I didn't get informed but wasn't
much to see anyway. Only boat that went at auction was a cabin cruiser. None
of the sailboats had bidders at opening prices. I was told the auctioneer
said "Will anyone give me $100" for a 32' boat and got only one taker. If it
is the one I am thinking of, it was ~mid 70s Pearson structurally sound but
hadn't been touched in maybe 10 years. Story I heard was owner died which
could explain why it was in disrepair.

At least one of the boats that didn't sell was previously berthed next to
mine. No idea on the make or year but seemed to be ~1980ish from the design
and thin fiberglass. IMO: It was a good design in that for a 22'? boat it
had close to 5'10" of head space in the cabin and by not using a motor well
had motor well had as much space as my Bahama. The deck was the typical
compromise you would expect in that to get that much head room they had to
give it a hump back so there wasn't a lot of level space from the cabin to
the bow.

The hatch cover was missing so the owner just covered the whole boat with a
blue tarp. It had been so long since he had done the blue tarp thing that
there was nothing but a few shredded pieces of plastic left. By last winter
it had filled with rain water to the point where it ready to sink.
Everything below deck appeared to be rotted to the point it was mush. I
didn't check closely as it would have required more 'invasion' then looking
through the missing hatch. Honestly if it had sails and I didn't already
have a boat in much better condition I would have considered buying it for a
beater. Just gut the rot and cut a piece of plywood for walking below deck
and leave it at that.
