If only they'd call me to pick one up... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/01/bu...1boats.html?em Boat owners are abandoning ship. Brett Flashnick for The New York Times . They often sandpaper over the names and file off the registry numbers, doing their best to render the boats, and themselves, untraceable. Then they casually ditch the vessels in the middle of busy harbors, beach them at low tide on the banks of creeks or occasionally scuttle them outright. The bad economy is creating a flotilla of forsaken boats. While there is no national census of abandoned boats, officials in coastal states are worried the problem will only grow worse as unemployment and financial stress continue to rise. Several states are even drafting laws against derelicts and say they are aggressively starting to pursue delinquent owners. Those wacky 'mericans! Wonder if anyone down there is trying to unload a seaworthy sailboat in the 16-20 foot range? I'll take a nice 30+ footer....... Something WITH a transom. My daughter was president of the sailing club at the University of North Florida. So many people want to donate boats to them that thye simply cannot accept them because they have no place to put them and no way to maintain all of them. These days, you can probably pick up a used 30' sailboat for nearly nothing. A RAV4 can't pull it's own weight. |
