My Serial Number is OC 186507. According to the chart at:
http://www.maxrules.com/Merc_model_files/40-50.html O = Oil injection C = Counter Rotation What does the counter rotation mean? Cannot definitely identify year from this chart, but found it (I believe) on another chart gained by Googling. Also, I cannot find any OC's in this chart. I had to climb behind this boat with a flashlight and wipe the dirt and oil off the SN tag. I KNOW I got it written down right. Thanks for bearing with a noob. Steve |

The OC is part of the serial number, not an indicator of the option/model type. What does the counter rotation mean? The prop spins the other way so when you have two outboards mounted, each prop cancels the other's steering torque. You do not have counter rotation. -- Regards, Dave Brown Brown's Marina Ltd http://brownsmarina.com/ |

In that case, the actual number becomes C186507, which identifies it as 1989. Other model designations make it an ELPTO. Electric start, Long shank, Power Trim, Oil injected. I think I've puzzled it together. Thanks for the info and help. Steve |
