This is an image my friend Rob Smith took on a recent photo
expedition.

Here's the puzzle - which direction is the fence running in terms of
North, East, South, or West.

Hints:

This was taken in New South Wales, Australia and around midnight under
natural moonlight.

The light bobbing along the fence line was Rob playing with an led
flashlight.

The direction is dead on in both directions.

Have at it.

The auto is facing north; so the fence runs north-south. At midnight, the
full moon is on the meridian, or very close to it; in New South Wales, the
moon is to the north, shadows are cast to the south. That's about as close
as I can get.

I'll wait for a few more answers before telling everyone.

By the way, I got it wrong when he posed the question in one of his
emails. :)

The star trails are making circles about due south (Oz being south of
the equator) meaning that due south is just over the rightmost lawn
chair so the fence runs east west.
