You have a right to your guess. Doesn't mean you are correct though. The thing that gets me about these highly controversial and debatable subjects is that often those on the "left" become as zealous in pushing their beliefs as they accuse the "right" of being uncaring. The zealousness is often supported with insults, name-calling and general bashing of anyone who doesn't subscribe to the lefties' POV. What I cannot figure out is what is motivating the righties to fight so hard against ways to lessen man's impact on the environment. It's not a question of lessing the impact or cleaning the air or pollution control. I'm not against any of that - in fact I'm pro environment and when I was Vice-Chairman of the town's Planning and Zoning board and Chairman of the Conservation Commission, I was a royal pain-in-the-ass to developers. I wasn't anti-development either, but I made sure they had their ducks in a row and that the impact to the local eco systems were either zero or minimalized. It's a question of pawning off bogus science as "settled". It's a giant trade system built to benefit a few - including Al Gore who has made millions trading carbon credits based on dubious statistical methodology which cheerfully ignores historical trends plus solar science while supporting flat out statistical lying and the ostrasizing scientists who dare question the "settled" science. The gist of the articles, which you obviously didn't read, is that good science is posing questions and poking/prodding data to find flaws, questions assumptions and test theories. Climate change science, as currently practiced, isn't good science. Are there changes in climate - sure there are. The question is what is causing it and the more closely the "settled science" is examined, it's becoming more evident that it's base assumption of anthropomorphic changes made by man are false. A good example is the recent contretemps over the "cow" tax - that cow farts area major component of "global warming". Here's a fact for you - there were more buffalo running around the Great Plains of the US than the entire dairy and beef industry herds currently in production. Buffalos fart too. Think about it instead of blaming "righties" for not being politically correct. -- "Never fight an inanimate object." P.J. O'Rourke |

My guess is that many on the right who are protesting the loudest simply don't want anything to interfere with their "enjoyment" even if it means further despoiling of the environment. I am completely for protecting the environment, as I enjoy getting out in the woods even when it is zero. The snow makes every thing very pretty. In the summer I also enjoy the woods and sailing. I also read a lot of history and realize that any changes in the climate are just the cyclic variations that have been going on for thousands of years. It has been hotter in the past and will be colder in the future. It is ironic that National Geographic which pushes global warming has an article on Nansen which show the arctic ice receded as far back then as it is today. That was over 110 years ago. Believe it or not they ignore that fact. A thousand years ago the Viking were taking ships much further north than we can go today. There have been in more recent times when there was no summer, as it snow even in July and August the summer months. I know the hockey stick graphs of the temperatures of the pass ten thousands of years are not accepted by popular opinion today, but a significant temperature drop would have far greater consequences to our culture than a rise. Can you imagine an economy dependent on corn and windmills for energy if the average temperature drop 10 degrees? I doubt if those windmill blades could stand 2 inches of ice. |

Most moderates agree that something is happening with global weather patterns and there's evidence of a shift, and man *may* have a hand in it. What I cannot figure out is what is motivating the righties to fight so hard against ways to lessen man's impact on the environment. While I agree we should be concerned about the environment, I knew from the start global warming was a farce of gigantic proportions. Fostered by statism and greed for our green. It was and is only a tool used to keep our minds off of the corruption, war, recession/depression and government incompetance. Nothing more. People like to focus their anxiety, "green CO2" was "politically correct"...but a farce none the less. We as humans over estimate the amount of control we have on such things like weather. We are in fact slaves to our environnent and will for all intensive purposes, always will be. We think we control a lot more than we actually do. One nice solar flare, and in 9-12 minutes or so it is all over as the earth is fried to a crisp. I just hope if/when it happens I get to land the fish first. |

You don't have a bozo bin. Why don't you just admit it and move on. Yeah? Want to see a copy of its contents? No - because it doesn't exist. And even if it does you don't have it turned on because you just can't stand not knowing what everybody is saying. I log the headers...not the actual messages... Uh huh. Have it your way. Why bother logging anything? Why do you keep a record of the subject headers for posts you don't read? Wouldn't it be simpler and cleaner to just mark them as "delete" or "ignore sender"? Eisboch I do mark them for "delete" so I never actually see the headers, except by checking the log. The messages aren't there...just the headers. I don't keep a record of the headers to keep a record, as it were. It is the way the filter works. I typically dump the contents of the log once or twice a month. You can almost hear the assholes screaming as I dump the log contents into the vat headers into boiling water. You've been reading too much Dickens. Eisboch Every few years, I reread three or four of his novels. I guess I have been through the entire cycle a half dozen times or more. |

My mother, bless her heart, was an avid reader (still is) and all through my childhood insisted that I read at least a book a week during the summer school vacation. She didn't care what I read, as long as I read at least a book a week. I remember it started with the "Hardy Boys" series back in about 6th grade. As I got older, she would "suggest" certain books to read. One year though, I found a very old collection of Edgar Allen Poe's complete works in a bookcase in the attic. I started reading some of his stuff and I think it freaked her out. I got a brief reprieve from reading that summer. The books (or book ... can't remember if it was a single, thick book or several) were (was) bound in real leather and looked as spooky as some of Poe's tales. Eisboch |

Auguste Dupin as the protagonist is often seen as the precursor to Sherlock Holmes. Doyle even admitted as much. And the Mystery Writers of American named their award after Poe - the Edgar. -- "Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."
