I got a tip from a guy here at rec.boats. I'd tell you his name, but he'd
prefer to remain anonymous. That way people can call him names.

Speaking of anonymity, my daughter and I are both trying to figure out how
that was done.

It's easy - you put the part of the hat which has the opening in it on
your head - it will fall off if you don't.

Speaking of math illiteracy.

My son, also bored with winter, hit me with this classic "Monty Hall"
challenge last night.
Goes something like:

=================================================

A contestant is on "Let's Make a Deal". She is told that behind one of
three curtains there is a new car. Behind the other two curtains are dirty
old goats.

She picks a curtain. Before it is opened, one of the other curtains is
opened to reveal some dirty old goats.

She is then given the opportunity to change her mind about which remaining
curtain she thinks the car is behind.

What should she do?

================================================

Surprisingly, I chose what is considered to be the correct answer.
I'll let those that have never heard of this think about it and decide for
themselves.

It's simple. There are two doors left which leaves three choices. Of
the three choices, two probabilities exist that she wins the car by
switching her choice.

She switches her choice to increase the probability of winning the
car.

Yeah, you can get a lot of mileage out of a gallon of ice cream!
My now 14 year old daughter has found the delight in Starbuck's hot
chocolate at about 4 bucks a cup!

Hey, as long as she's earning the money by mowing the lawn, washing the
car, etc., let her go!

When my younger daughter was 13-14, the complaint was that her allowance
wasn't big enough. I made a list of chores, and together we assigned a
monetary value to each. Washing the car was like $5, mowing the grass was
$8, doing dishes was $1, vacuuming the house was $5, and so one. Some of
the chores were limited, like washing the cars, to once a week or
thereabouts. But, she could earn up to $200 a month doing chores from the
list.

The most she ever earned was about $55, but she didn't whine about her
allowance continuously.

One day last winter Grandma' called and wanted to talk to The Mouse..
I told her Mouse was outside doing the driveway. G'ma asked if we pay
her, Mrs. JW said "sure, she get's dinner and a place to sleep
tonight"! Acutally, I discourage my kids from working until they
graduate although they do have daily chores at home. I will not let
them work during the school year, school is number one then. We have a
"play" budget here in our home, It's not a lot, but as we pretty much
split it equally, the kids have everything they need, including
treats....

Why do people wear baseball caps backwards?

On the boat, with the wind, I'll turn it around so it doesn't blow off. But
otherwise, I wear it with the bill in front, blocking the sun.
