used to think it was because the French and the French government were
arrogant, but in the last eight years, we've certain surpassed them in

Well, back in the 50's, France declaring their ww2 war debts to the
US as "null and void"

I really do not understand the undercurrent of hatred for the French.
It's the whole "freedom fries" thing. They didn't back the Bush
administration in the made for Halliburton war.

Ahhh...Halliburton...the perfect symbol of corporate America, except
didn't I read that Halliburton moved its headquarters offshore to avoid
legal liabilities and taxes?

Just to clarify, Clinton gave no bid contracts to Halliburton to
CONTINUE work in the Balkans. It didn't make sense to hire another
firm when they were already there. BUT, the fact remains, 98% of
Halliburton's political contributions goes to Republicans, Dick Cheney
benefits directly from Halliburton, and there are billions of dollars
of in either unsupported costs or questionable cost overrides.

Franco-phobia then when he didn't properly kiss American ass.
Johnny Carson did a bit where he had the "French Ambassador"
as a guest. Carson seriously asked the Ambassador some questions
about tense relations between the countries and the Ambassador
answered in a haughty, Gaullist tone, with an annoying French accent.
Carson said something like, "Speaking as an American, I suppose my
only reaction is this." And slammed the guy in the face with a cream
pie.
It was so well done the audience gasped in shock. Me too.
Then the Frenchy stood up, shook hands with Carson and exited stage
right to uproarious laughter.
One of my favorite Carson bits, after Ed Ames and the hatchet.
Happened to see both of them live.

Me, too. Carson was the best. No one who followed is even close. Too bad

space then, either. Odd they sure benefited from those oil contracts
though...

Of course we used Halliburton. But I suppose they could have put the
job up for bids and maybe got Burger King to do the various jobs.
