What hath Al Gore wrought...

http://www.businessandmedia.org/arti...230165231.aspx

Sometimes, you just gotta wonder why these squirrel brainscome up with
this stuff.

Jesus - there used to be about twenty hundred gazillion bizillion
buffalo running around - any "Global Warming" then?

What a bunch of maroons...

And on a related Al Gore note:

Scientist told "politics will not intrude on science" and when it
does, Gore promptly fires him.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=13773

Oh and lest we forget, there are other squirrel brains working to
destroy economies besides Al Bore...erm...Gore.

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releas...-sde121708.php

And, of course, while they are screaming about "fixing" the upcoming
diaster, they admit that...well sir, we can't.

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releas...-nqo121708.php

Finally Al Gore has to be thrilled with Obama on this one.

http://corner.nationalreview.com/pos...U3Zjg4ZWE5NDQ=

Chinese style population reduction anyone?

Anyone?

PS: Which "scientist" recently hired by Obama was/is/used to be a
"Global Cooling" advocate?

Yeah, if Tom keeps this up, he will be posting almost as many off topic
posts as Harry. I sure am glad Tom hasn't followed Harry's idea of
cross posting into numerous other groups (including alt.kooks) to
encourage "new blood". Can you imagine how many off topic post we would
have then.

Harry tends to reply to more off topic than start them. Harry really does
not start many posts at all. His only new post in January is the off topic
one about "bimini tops". Typically every morning it is another 6 or so off
topic posts from Tom. Seldom even remotely related to boating.

There are really very few on topic posts anymore. Newsgroups are declining
in use. Some of the others I frequent also have dropped off a bit over the
years. Unfortunately there is no way to tell in rec.boats if on topic
participation would pick up if the bs level dropped.

I think you need to change your UseNet server, you seem to be missing
most of the NG posts. I normally see 10-20 cut and paste political post
a day from Harry. I have not kept up with his posting history since
Jan. 1, but the 10-20 track record is his historical norm. I personally
would rather see Tom's silly OT posts, than OT posts that are nothing
more than a troll to call people "scum" "sheetzs" "bullshippers"
"idiots" or whatever his new favorite insult is.

One thing I have learned in UseNet, is YMMV.

I read somewhere recently that newsgroups will become a thing of the past in
the not to distant future. The original concept and intent has long since
been lost and the culture has changed.
Part of the change has been brought on by faster computers, higher
bandwidths and speed.
One does not have to carefully construct brief posts anymore in order to
participate at turtle-like uploading/downloading speeds.

The other big influence was when the web based sites started automatic feeds
of newsgroups to their forums. This lead further to things like "Google
Groups" and such where the original culture of Usenet is totally lost.
There are many users of Google Groups who don't realize or know what a
newsgroup is.

I'm using the east coast earthlink news server since they're my isp as well.
But I'm not seeing anything high in initial posts from Harry on google
either. You say you see 10-20 new topics from Harry a day? On earthlink
and google groups I only see one new topic posting from Harry for all of
January, the bimini top one. Sure you are not counting replys? There are
tons of replys from Harry.

There are a handful of folks whose presence here I enjoy. I probably
have half the "regulars" in my bozo bin, though.

If I need boating info or want to share it, though, I tend to look
elsewhere, to the moderated discussion boards where crap posters like
Loogy, Reggie, DK, et cetera, have short lives before they are flushed.

Yeah, Harry's a great guy, he'd NEVER make political posts here, he's
always on topic, he wouldn't ever think of cross posting to other
groups just to satisfy his narcissistic needs, he wouldn't resort to
petty and childish vulgar name calling, and he certainly wouldn't lie
about anything here. He is the best, and is just trying to get the
rest of the group to be nice, and make every topic ON topic.

Are you seeing a high volume of Harry initiated new topics? I'm not and I
wondered if others really did or they were counting replys. I see Harry
replys llike crazy but practically no new topic postings.

I generally reply to the boating questions.

Off season for me as well since I'm a water sports boater. Lots of things
to fix this winter. I finished fixing the hole in the front of the boat. I
think I posted about that one. The results came out fairly good
http://home.earthlink.net/~jamesgang...thullfixed.jpg It's a little
uneven but you have to run your hand over it to really tell. If anyone
remembers, the hole was pretty big with lots of delamination. I made some
pieces of wood contoured to the hull and used them with a bottle jack to
hold it all closed while the epoxy set. I then ground out the broken edge
with the dremel and filled it with an epoxy/filler mix. Finally covered it
with gelcoat. Had to spend a while color matching since it'a an 18 year old
boat.

Now I've got the outdrive off. Looked like the upper gimbal bearing was
going. And the gelcoat had cracked around the lower edge. So I pulled it
all off and discovered that both the upper gimbal bolts and the steering arm
bolts were loose. So just need some gaskets for that problem. Meanwhile I
still need to grind out the cracked gelcoat on th ebottom of the transom and
see what's up there. Transom plywood it's self is solid all around the
cutout so I think it's just going to be a gelcoat repair.

I think I probably should have traded this boat in 4 or 5 years ago but now
our teenager is headed to college next year so I expect use will start
dropping off. Might as well fix this one up one more time.

I can add, can you? I can see that you are trying to make a dishonest

not reflect. A real image of top posters would add each individual

list", or just "fudge" the facts?

===========

I fudged nothing. I simply copied & pasted the information. Make of it
what
you will. Or can.- Hide quoted text -

I can add, can you? I can see that you are trying to make a dishonest
insinuation. You said "Top posters this month" which your numbers do
not reflect. A real image of top posters would add each individual
posters differnt monikers, but that would not suit your purpose.. You
have not changed a bit, you are still dishonest. Harry will love you...

============

I didn't say "Top posters this month". I copied & pasted the info from
google. I did not add anything of my own to the post. Not one single letter
or number. If you have an issue with the information, take it up with
google.

There *is* a way to break the info out by handle, but I don't know how. I've
seen it posted that way in other newsgroups. If that's important to you, go
figure it out.

I just copied & pasted the data. Interpret it as you wish. Below is a much
better summary example from another newsgroup. The person who provided it
got it from his own news service. Maybe you can find a way to get this info
from YOUR provider. I don't care.

All true but most of us are willing to cut Tom a little slack because
he's basically a reasonable person and likes boats.

There are really very few on topic posts anymore. Newsgroups are declining
in use. Some of the others I frequent also have dropped off a bit over the
years. Unfortunately there is no way to tell in rec.boats if on topic
participation would pick up if the bs level dropped.

Interesting points with no ready answers. It's true that quite a few
of the old rec.boats people are missing in action, and no doubt part
of that is due to the hyperactivity of the off-topic crowd and the
uncivil nature of many discussions. The signal to noise ratio has
always been poor and it has gotten a lot worse in the last couple of
years.

What to do about it ? Darned if I know. Perhaps we should all
make a New Years resoulution to make no more than one off topic post
for every one that is on topic. It seems reasonable on the surface
and would definitely improve the group.

One thing you could do is cut back on your snarky comments. You did the
same thing over at Chuck's. Why bother to put up what might be an
interesting boating post if the snarks are going to jump on it?

Anytime that Wayne posts about his boat, his trips, etc. YOU are the
asshole that makes snarky remarks about it, because he has more than

Yeah, if Tom keeps this up, he will be posting almost as many off topic

posting into numerous other groups (including alt.kooks) to encourage "new

Eisboch

I hope not. There are some groups out there that provide a lot of good
information at a reasonable price.

This is one of them, it just requires some high waders.

That repair job looks damn good.

My question is why does anyone give a schitt about these stats?

There are really very few on topic posts anymore. *Newsgroups are declining
in use. *Some of the others I frequent also have dropped off a bit over the
years. *Unfortunately there is no way to tell in rec.boats if on topic
participation would pick up if the bs level dropped.

Yeah, if Tom keeps this up, he will be posting almost as many off topic
posts as Harry. *I sure am glad Tom hasn't followed Harry's idea of cross
posting into numerous other groups (including alt.kooks) to encourage "new
blood". *Can you imagine how many off topic post we would have then.

Apparently you're missing the cut'n'pastes Harry frequents this place with.
They don't get much of a response, but he sure as hell posts them.- Hide quoted text -

Here's the google first page of rec.boats sorted by initial author.

Where are all these 'cutnpastes' from Harry?

Don't know what you're showing me here.

FWIW, Harry uses HK,hk, boater, Boater, A Boater, H Krause, etc, etc. So,
none of the 'statistics' mean a whole lot.
