Default What hath Al Gore wrought...

I'm using the east coast earthlink news server since they're my isp as well.
But I'm not seeing anything high in initial posts from Harry on google
either. You say you see 10-20 new topics from Harry a day? On earthlink
and google groups I only see one new topic posting from Harry for all of
January, the bimini top one. Sure you are not counting replys? There are
tons of replys from Harry.

6 or so off topic posts from Tom. Seldom even remotely related to
boating.

There are really very few on topic posts anymore. Newsgroups are
declining in use. Some of the others I frequent also have dropped off a
bit over the years. Unfortunately there is no way to tell in rec.boats
if on topic participation would pick up if the bs level dropped.

Yeah, if Tom keeps this up, he will be posting almost as many off topic
posts as Harry. I sure am glad Tom hasn't followed Harry's idea of
cross posting into numerous other groups (including alt.kooks) to
encourage "new blood". Can you imagine how many off topic post we would
have then.

I think you need to change your UseNet server, you seem to be missing most
of the NG posts. I normally see 10-20 cut and paste political post a day
from Harry. I have not kept up with his posting history since Jan. 1, but
the 10-20 track record is his historical norm. I personally would rather
see Tom's silly OT posts, than OT posts that are nothing more than a troll
to call people "scum" "sheetzs" "bullshippers" "idiots" or whatever his
new favorite insult is.

One thing I have learned in UseNet, is YMMV.

1. Use filters
2. Tell us about your recent boating experience, we are pretty much
ice bound here so we await your trip-reports with open minds and eyes.
3. Seems you share Harry's ideology on most political issues, and to
some of us, it seems it clouds your ability to reason.. Just sayin'.
Where were you in the weeks coming up to the election when we were
flooded by Harry's crossposting army?
4. GO TOM!!!

Are you seeing a high volume of Harry initiated new topics? I'm not and I
wondered if others really did or they were counting replys. I see Harry
replys llike crazy but practically no new topic postings.

I generally reply to the boating questions.

Off season for me as well since I'm a water sports boater. Lots of things
to fix this winter. I finished fixing the hole in the front of the boat. I
think I posted about that one. The results came out fairly good
http://home.earthlink.net/~jamesgang...thullfixed.jpg It's a little
uneven but you have to run your hand over it to really tell. If anyone
remembers, the hole was pretty big with lots of delamination. I made some
pieces of wood contoured to the hull and used them with a bottle jack to
hold it all closed while the epoxy set. I then ground out the broken edge
with the dremel and filled it with an epoxy/filler mix. Finally covered it
with gelcoat. Had to spend a while color matching since it'a an 18 year old
boat.

Now I've got the outdrive off. Looked like the upper gimbal bearing was
going. And the gelcoat had cracked around the lower edge. So I pulled it
all off and discovered that both the upper gimbal bolts and the steering arm
bolts were loose. So just need some gaskets for that problem. Meanwhile I
still need to grind out the cracked gelcoat on th ebottom of the transom and
see what's up there. Transom plywood it's self is solid all around the
cutout so I think it's just going to be a gelcoat repair.

I think I probably should have traded this boat in 4 or 5 years ago but now
our teenager is headed to college next year so I expect use will start
dropping off. Might as well fix this one up one more time.

Thank you!!! Unfortunately my technique is a bit the same for gelcoat
and wallboard mud. Sort of like shampoo instructions. I put some on,
wait for it to dry, and sand most of it off. Repeat. Eventually I
get there but it's a good thing I'm not in a hurry :-) One advantage
of being a fair weather boater.

In the ongoing effort to provide on-topic content I'll take some snaps
of the cracked transom gelcoat "before" shots. Too early to say if
I'll produce something worthy of an "after" shot.

Sure had to take a lot of crap off the boat to get the gymbal housing
off. Argh.

Pictures are always good. Try to have a grandkid pointing out the problem.
A little 'human interest' never hurts!
