Here's what I want to know:
5% of all deaths from diseases of the circulatory system are
attributed to alcohol.
I'm in favor of banning the growth and sale of all tobacco products.
Thought you'd like to know that.
Great - that's wonderful that you have an actual opinon on the subject
of smoking.
Now, how about the alcohol?

As Scott mentioned, harry's response had absolutely nothing to do with the
thread you began. His rebuttal to your follow up, again had nothing to do
with the thread. What does smoking have to do with booze? This is his M.O.
in *every* thread. This will now grow to a long winded, flaming, personal
attack thread. As is every other one that harry contributes to. Yes, I'm
part of it, and I apologize. I will not respond to this thread again.

Oh yeah, I notice that the only threads that don't get out of hand, are the
ones that harry starts... no one responds. What a surprise.

Well, just so you know.. The attack was aimed at Tom who is well known
for enjoying a good cigar here and there.... You are right, it is his
M.O... it has been for over a decade.

My rant of a reply misdirected to intent is none the less my sentiment.
I cannot understand how Americans are sinking to European Socialism and
herd management by taxation by government obligated to special interests
and not the People.

Well, that has more to do with the Democratic party controlling the
main stream media, thus the propaganda. Most Americans never see both
sides of an argument, only what the DNC feeds them through a corrupted
and pretty much useless system. Just wait till Obama gets the
censorship doctrine (fairness doctrine) into place, there will be no
options for anyone who has a dissenting point of view..

Either way Tom is right. booze is at least as dangerous as cocaine and
other drugs but it can be easily taxed so it will survive.. MJ for
instance is too easy to "manufacturer" to be controled and taxed, so
it will be taxed with the criminal system instead of the taxman...

Here's what I want to know:

5% of all deaths from diseases of the circulatory system are
attributed to alcohol.

15% of all deaths from diseases of the respiratory system are
attributed to alcohol.

30% of all deaths from accidents caused by fire and flames are
attributed to alcohol.

30% of all accidental drownings are attributed to alcohol.

30% of all suicides are attributed to alcohol.

40% of all deaths due to accidental falls are attributed to alcohol.

45% of all deaths in automobile accidents are attributed to alcohol.

60% of all homicides are attributed to alcohol.

Why aren't we taxing the crap out of alcohol consumption?

ANSWER ME HENRY WAXWORM!!!

Because:

1) It would accomplish nothing.

2) Booze lobbyists would never let it happen.

While "taxing the crap" is relative, some states are, just not your
state, or mine. Washington and Oregon are right at $20 per gallon.

But people want it. And it is less dangerous than alcohol. Will the
tobacco companies stop paying the money the states collected and borrowed
against with the new taxes seeming to violate the agreement between the
government and tobacco. This country was founded on freedom of choice.
1984 is happening.

I'm not in favor of excessive drinking. I am in favor of criminal
penalties for those who drink and drive. As in jail time...for the first
offense.

Not what I asked. Based on the personal and economic devastation
wrought on the American public by excessive drinking of alcohol, are
you in favor of increasing the taxes by triple or quadruple the
amounts now taxed in the same manner as tobacco?
