We just did the snow thing. Took the grand kids skiing for Christmas at 7 Springs Pa. Perfect snow conditions. No snow anywhere but the manmade stuff on the hill. My grand kids doing great the first time in the snow. http://esteroriverheights.com/electr...petra_ski2.jpg And one old fart with snow in his hat. http://esteroriverheights.com/electr...reg_skiing.jpg You have that "old school" skier look. My wife says I haven't bought any new clothes since the Carter administration (that is certainly true of winter clothes) but Nixon was still in the White House the last time I was on skis. I was surprised how quickly it comes back. I was ready for anything Pennsylvania could throw at me by the end of the first day. I would still be on the green slopes out west tho. Those boys are crazy. I'm quite proud of the fact that I've never, ever been on snow skies. Looks way to dangerous to me.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Errrr.. how fast did you say that 'vette goes? ;) All thing are relative. :) 'Scuse me for butting in. Tom, I picked up eight Hess trucks yesterday new and in boxes for $240. They are the 94 - 99, 01, and 03. Now I'm trying to make a deal on the ones missing through 07,. The 08 was a big hit with a grandkid who tells his mom not to play with it too long or she'll wear the batteries out. You let them play with them? NNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Yup. And even throw the boxes away. They are, without doubt, their favorite toys, and the damn things are built to take it. The parts that would normally break off are made to snap off and be replaced. So far, I'm very impressed with the things. -- ** Good Day! ** John H |

Eisboch Why are you so concerned about removing the snow from your driveway? :) Good question. It ends up turning into a sheet of ice anyway. Earlier today I told Mrs.E. that we'd be better off not plowing it because both her Navigator and my truck have better 4x4 traction in snow than on ice. She looked at me like I had two heads. The pictures you see of our driveway are a bit deceiving. There is quite a steep hill coming up from the horse barn to the house. If it's not plowed, the snow packs down into ice and it becomes very slippery. After the last storm which was about 18 inches of snow, then some sleet and brief rain the temps dropped that night to about 10 degrees. The only way to get from the house to the barn was sitting on your ass and sliding down the hill. Behind the barn (actually in front of it looking from the road) there's another driveway section that circles around the barn and up to the house from the other direction. That section also is a fairly steep hill that turns to solid ice unless you can get it down to bare blacktop first. I had to spread 9 bags of rock salt after the last storm. I hate using that stuff, but the "environmentally friendly" stuff is about 17 bucks a bag versus 7 bucks for rock salt. Eisboch In Essex we had a flat driveway, we never shoveled it. We just blasted through with the Blazer. Now that we are up state taking care of dad we have to clean it and spend mucho bucks on rock salt as his friends are older and drive cars in the winter.. Here's the driveway section I was referring to: http://www.eisboch.com/Jan1snow3.jpg When that freezes, it's slide-on-your-ass-down-to-the-barn-time. Also, notice that I even plowed Mrs.E's horse riding track in the paddock. The little Gator does pretty good for having a little 20 hp engine. It was pushing snow about 16 inches deep: http://www.eisboch.com/Jan1snow2.jpg This morning was the first time in 7 years that the tractor (diesel) wouldn't start. It was 5 degrees and it just couldn't turn over fast enough to fire. Needs a new battery. Eisboch |
