The local pub TV station is fundraising and played a feature on Pete Seeger last night. There was a section on Paul Robeson. Seeger is still alive at 89, but Robeson is long gone. Both of them are among the most gifted Americans, and Robeson especially was a genius, accomplish in academic, law and performing. Both were persecuted and prosecuted by narrow-minded right-wing Americans, most of whom could barely tie their shoes without help. Robeson was a very impressive man. He was a football All-American from Rutgers, bye the way. Of course, they stripped him of that honor. The State Department denied him a passport because he was criticizing the treatment of blacks, imagine that, criticizing lynchings. But, the fairness doctrine is important. And the dumb right-wing schitters of today are worried about "the fairness doctrine." |
