I've had quite a few laughs over the idiotic whining about the
"fairness
doctrine." I'm old enough to remember the horrors of the HUAC
hearings
and the various blacklists against actors, directors, writers, and
performing artists. *That* was real war against freedom of speech.
You know, I've heard lots of railing against reinstating the fairness
doctrine, but I've heard of very few that actually want to reinstate
it. Obama, for one, is on the record against reinstating it.
Check with the US Senate.
Ain't payback a bitch? OF course, the fairness doctrine doesn't call
for
censorship of any kind, so if it were reinstated, the loony righties
could go on spewing their hate speech just as they are now.- Hide

No they would not. Nobody wants to listen to liberal haters, thats why
there are only govt and privately funded on the air. The "censorship
doctrine" would force any station that wanted to play right wing radio
which brings in ad revenue to also play left wing hate which does not
so they would in effect be forced to give half of their product away
for free. No business can survive like that so they would be forced to
drop any radio programs Pelosi and Reid found to be "right wing". And
again, Obama has told some audiences he is against it, and others he
is for it....

So, rightwing hate radio can only survive in its current vacuum?

Why is the market for "rightwing" radio so large and "leftwing" radio so
small?

Because the rightwingers need a daily feeding so they know what to think
and what to say. Leftwingers are smart enough to figure that out on
their own. Plus, the rightwingers only feel good about themselves when
their heroes are putting down those on the other side. If Limbaugh,
Coulter, et al, were not spewing hate, no one would pay any attention to
them.

Nice cap, but my grandfather left *before* the Russian Revolution. :)

Your grandfather seems to have been jumping back and forth over the
numerous borders. He keeps changing nationality depending upon what day
it is.

Well, Reggie..it is this way...

1. I had more than one grandfather. I know that is a difficult concept
for you to understand.

2. One was Russian, the other was German-Polish-Austrian-Hungarian
because national borders tended to change a lot, and his little town was
in the middle of that sort of stuff. One came here right after the turn
of the 19th to 20 Centuries, and was processed through Ellis Island, and
the other arrived at the Port of Philadelphia in 1911.

I suppose you have to know a little 19th and 20th Century European
history to understand the changing borders situation. Obviously, your
education in that area is...lacking.

What are you afraid of........?

Censorship... you wouldn't understand. Your govt won't let you watch
the frekin' Simpsons and you sit back and take it..

I just can't believe that. Canada won't let the Simpsons be broadcast
over
their airwaves or cable? Hell we've been watching them for 25+ years in
the USA.

Good Lord....... don't listen to JustHate... he's stoned on LoonyTune
ganga.
Even the CBC ran re-runs just before the 6 o'clock news for years.- Hide

Oh my...now I know for certain you're stoned on LoonyTunes special mix.
I don't recall ever saying anything about a "chicken fight scene" being
censored.

Of course, the Attorney General's List of Subversive Organizations, but
remember the Fairness Doctrine is important. ;-)

I wonder if Gonzo put himself, Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the Bush
Admin subversives on that list? :?)

The local pub TV station is fundraising and played a feature on Pete
Seeger last night. There was a section on Paul Robeson. Seeger is still
alive at 89, but Robeson is long gone. Both of them are among the most
gifted Americans, and Robeson especially was a genius, accomplish in
academic, law and performing. Both were persecuted and prosecuted by
narrow-minded right-wing Americans, most of whom could barely tie their
shoes without help.

And the dumb right-wing schitters of today are worried about "the
fairness doctrine."

Harry,

I love tweaking you, you are so easy, because you can not keep up with
your stories. I mentioned your Russian grandfather about a year ago,
and you were adamant that you DID NOT have a Russian Grandfather, nor
did you ever say you had a Russian Grandfather. Now if you would like
me to retrieve your post via Google, let me know. It would probably
take me a min or two.

I understand that European borders have a long history of changing
borders, I just think it is funny that your life history has changed
more often and more dramatically than the European borders.

Reggie, I don't give a flying foch what you do.

I don't care what you google up or make up.

Whatever you do, it isn't going to change the fact that you are the
reigning asshole of rec.boats.

Have a nice day, and if you can handle it, step off the curb in front of

Robeson was a very impressive man. He was a football All-American from
Rutgers, bye the way. Of course, they stripped him of that honor. The
State Department denied him a passport because he was criticizing the
treatment of blacks, imagine that, criticizing lynchings. But, the
fairness doctrine is important.
