Looks like the Clintons outwitted Obama, and now he has *no* choice but to appoint her or risk a major backlash in his own party and supporters. Hope this isn't an indication of a President Obama's negotiating skills in other areas. He's off to a great start. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo...tory?track=rss ~~ snerk ~~ I doubt he'll have eight years of failure in about every area of importance, ala Bush. More likely 4 years. With the economic meltdown going on, he is probably a one term POTUS. |

The state of the economy will be the only measuring stick for Obama's successes or failures. Everything else has become secondary. I wish him luck. I sure wouldn't want the job. Eisboch |

Meanwhile, for many, we inhaled another breath of Congressional disgust today. Last week, Pelosi and Reid were hitting all the airwaves, advocating and pushing for a bailout of the automotive industry, particularly GM. Both recommended using part of the 700B bailout package to make secure the jobs of the employees and to protect the benefits of those retired. Today, both have demanded that GM, Ford and Chrysler present by Dec 2nd, a business plan that shows how any form of government assistance will make any difference, before they will even consider a bailout package. What changed their minds? Eisboch |

Today, both have demanded that GM, Ford and Chrysler present by Dec 2nd, a business plan that shows how any form of government assistance will make any difference, before they will even consider a bailout package. What changed their minds? The fact that 90% of the American public is ****ed off at being sold a bill of goods about the true nature of the auto bailout. I said it then when it was first proposed and I'll say it now - the average taxpaying schmuck who pays $30/40 co-pay everytime they go to the doc and carries 20% co-pay on major medical is not going to stand for supporting zero co-pays for UAW retirees and the feather bedding "job security" for unproductive workers. You want to hear an ear full about GM and the UAW, stop by your local post office and open a conversation about it with people. You'll be lucky to get out with having hearing damage. Pelosi and Reid saw the way the wind was blowing and, with the true conviction of the weak willed, changed tack. Notice that Barry O hasn't chimed in on this in any significant way? |

That's right...there will be no White House support for efforts to restrict abortion. There will be no White House support for curtailing stem cell research. There will be no White House support for efforts to deny science. GITMO will be closed. The NLRB will represent workers and management, not just management. We will have an actual plan and actual schedule for getting out of Iraq. Many of the most restrictive and onerous provisions of the unPatriot Act will be flushed. Et cetera. |

You call that a social agenda. Those issues are irrelevant to 90% of Americans right now. They want to know whether they are going to have a job next year. The could care less about stem cell research, abortions and denying science, whatever that means. |
