In my mind Chapter 11 is the prudent way for them to prove themselves. I've written my Congress folks on just where I stand. I hope other are doing the same. I just received an email from a local Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealership. Somehow I ended up on their email list and they occasionally send me notices of "special deals". Anyway, the email was different. It was a a request from GM (via the dealership) to contact my Congressional representatives and encourage them to bail out the auto industry. It had form letters all written and all I had to do was click. I didn't. Gotta think about this some more. But I *did* have an idea. Why doesn't the US Federal Government file for Chapter 11 bankrupcy and reorganize? During the reorganization period, stop all interest payments on loans, stop all foreign aid programs, stop everything except National Defense. Have all the troops in Iraq head back to the barracks and pack up. Appoint a representative from each state .... sorta like a second Contiental Congress .... and come up with a reorganization plan, based upon the Constitution. Pay 10 cents on the dollar to all creditors, and start over. Eisboch I've said this before. You could go under United Nations leadership until your own gov't can prove that it could run the country in a responsible manner. The US is just too important to the worlds' economy to be led in such careless manner. UN *leadership*, what an oxymoron. Well they helped their economy with the food for oil program. |
