Thanks Tim for the great info.. I had just found the sailcalc site
yesterday and was using it to check out some of the boats that my wife and I have been thinking about.. The tide program is pretty neat too.. I have one on my Palm Pilot so it's nice to find one for the pc as well.. Bill wrote in message ... Hi - I've been looking for opensource software related to sailing for a while. I haven't found too many linux specific programs related to navigation - not too much that's useful anyway, but I have found some opensource java software that's related to sailing and very useful. In particular, I'd like to draw your attention to jtides (www.arachnoid.com/JTides/ ) which is an excellent tide table approximator. I say approximator because the creator included a general disclaimer stating that it's results are not to be used for navigation. In my experience, its as accurate any proprietary product I've seen. I've also found some java based calculators for site reduction and such. I don't recall the site where I found them. Finally, Sail Pro is pretty cool. http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html. Hope this is helpful Tim Smith |
