Apelco fishfinder
On our boat Apelco 260 fishfinder display unit stopped working
(apparently from water intrusion). Nothing on the screen is legible now. My question is: can we use any other fishfinder with existing thru hull transducer? It has : 200 kHz, 60 W rms, 3 pin, Con-X-All transducer connector, 2 pin, Con-X-All type power connector, Or may be you can help to locate working display unit Apelco 260 for sale? Thanks, Jacob |

Thanks, Jacob I have a 460 unit. Heads come up on ebay frequently... I managed to score one locally, and cheaply. Most go for 70-100 which is insane, in my view, but I have a very difficult location for another transducer, temp and speed, and it's not compatible (50kHz) with anything other than a low-end depth display. So, I continue to keep my eye out for other replacements, as the screen isnt' very good on the one I got, either (but the other was unreadable and most of the keys were inoperable, too)... L8R Skip |

L8R Skip Most, (90%) of the Transducers marketed in America, are built by one, or two, OEM's. If the Frequency is even close, (+/-5%) then usually they will work just fine for shallow waters. ( 50 Fa) You may need to change the connector to whatever your new Display is using, but that isn't a really big problem. Using a small Transducer on a High Power Sounder can cause the Barium Titanate Crystal to fracture, (Fail) if you overdrive them by 500% of rated power, for long periods of time, but mostly Transducers can take a lot of abuse, without harm. Multi Freq Transducers are more fragile than Single Freq Transducers, and will accept less abuse before failing, but they still will work quite well if you don't over power them, more than 200% of rated power.
