Static and loss of reception
In article ,

The reception on my vhf suffers when I have the fishfinder/sounder
turned on. There is some static and the quality of reception is much
worse than normal. There is no problem when the chartplotter or radar is
running, just the sounder. All electronics are in close proximity to the
radio. Any ideas or suggestions,
Thanks
Add Power Filtering on both the VHF and Sounder Power Leads, to eliminate
the common power wiring as the transmission source. Also make sure the
Power wires to both units, are big enough to handle the current required
to operate them. Voltage Drop due to wiring resistance is a prime cause
of unreliable operations. If that doesn't fix it, buy a better designed
VHF Radio, as the one you have is really poorly designed, to have this
problem.
